Are there any of you out there?

I'm emigrating in July and am interested in what the local league team are like or do the mighty 'Crusaders' dominate everything.

And where's the best place to watch the Cup Final (as it would be just be my luck for FC to finally win at Wembley just as I've left having supported them for 30 years!)

Stayed there for quite a while i was in NZ for a ong time too. im afrais to say its all Union! The only place league seemed to have any popularity was obviously in Auckland.

It was strange going though these tiny villages and stopping off in the pubs and seeing the local teams with NZ Internationals in! They have provincial union teams didnt see any league mentioned in the South Island im afraid!Crusaders do dominate.

There's not many of us out here. In fact I'm the only one I know The Crusaders and Canterbury dominate and being Union is not exactly that thrilling when your passion is RL. At least we get to see the odd ex-league player and a host of All Blacks when they play. The Warriors used to play an away game against the West Tigers at the AMI Stadium, that ended a couple of years ago though.

There was a domestic league. The Canterbury Bulls played in the Bartercard Cup, but no more.

We do get every NRL game and the UK Superleague. Sky also broadcast the challenge cup BBC games.

Champions Sports bar in Cathedral Square is the place to watch a game whilst enjoying a beer.

I emigrate - Hull move to the KC, compete a GF, win the Challenge Cup, lose in a Challenge Cup final. I've still got the passion for 'em though.

You noticed the Crusaders are now sh*t! There something weird going on, can't be me, my wife says I have no influence on anything

Thanks for the replies.

I was hoping the Warriors may take a couple of games 'on the road' to Christchurch. I'll just have to hope FC win the grand final and the WCC is hosted 'down under'.

With regard to union, it's not the fact that the Crusaders are a union team that will make them difficult to support. It's the fact that they wear red!

P.S. Just seen the draw for the 2011 union world cup and my birthday weekend has Agentina v England in Christchurch. Could be tasty!
