Another season over with : Sat Sep 18, 2021 6:42 am
Well thats another season done with, think we have in general done ok to be fair a 9th or10th finish is somthing to hopefully build on.i would of certainly took 11th at the start of the season.maybe had cc gone a few weeks earlier would we be looking at play offs now.big positives for me was the continued improvement of kershaw and really see lino in a different light to what i did at first.big few weeks coming up now with who gets head coach job and although i stated id like fresh face in wp does deserve the chance he as earnned it. Hopefully couple of quality additions and couple more resignings esp batch and hampshire.a big thank you and good luck all lads that do leave.

Hope everyone on here(even the ones i dont always see eye to eye with)enjoy the stress free few months as the rollocoster ride will soon start again....

Ps any one already missing there rugby cracking game on at the graveyard today NCL playyoff rugby normy v underbank :D

For me it was yet another could've, should've would've season. ATEOTD there was nothing to choose between us Cas, Leeds, & HKR. We could easily have been pushing for playoffs, but unlikely to progress further.
The 3 games where it became clear that CC could no longer turn our fortunes around were key, Cas/Salford/Huddersfield. Pretty much full squads for those games and came up short. The games at the start of the season could also have gone either way. I don't particularly blame CC for the rut we ended up in, but by then it was clear that he had run out of ideas to get us out of it.
Next season may be pivotal for our SL future. The stakes are getting higher and whomever becomes 1st team coach is always going to be a gamble. Hopefully, new coach and signings are successful and we avoid an injury crisis. Oh, and some progress on the stadium upgrade would be good.

Hindsight is a marvellous thing ,now we’ll never know if things had been changed earlier would it have made difference to our position. We are still in super league and when on song are a match for virtually any team ,and if we can play anywhere near that performance last night we hopefully will be a force to be reckoned with .Also great that we signed off with a memorable win and one to savour into the off season

What would a Cockney know about rugby league?

Re: Another season over with : Sat Sep 18, 2021 8:41 am
Start of the season I thought we’d be 10th/11th come years end. I like we were maybe better than that in the end but took too long to make the big change. While the last few weeks have been more enjoyable I still think we need a new broom through the place. If we go with the continuity option we’ll get more of the same.

At a guess a few of the out of contract lads will not be retained now. Looked like a couple were saying goodbye last night. Could be the biggest turn around we’ve seen for a few years

In some ways I think it was better that Chester continued through that period.
I'm not sure Willie would have turned them round at that stage. We kinda needed to hit rock bottom against Huddersfield to shock the players into action.
Still hard to turn the fortunes around but the shorter stint gave Willie a fighting chance.

Im a touch concerned that the leadership had agreed a contract extension for CC to then turn around and sack him.

Anyway what's done is done, its been an enjoyable end to the season, looking forward to next year with whoever is in charge. I would be happy with WP he has earned his shot at a head coaches gig.

Re: Another season over with : Sat Sep 18, 2021 9:01 am
It was a nice way to end the season after the desperation of 2019 and the non event that was 2020.

Nobody can call this a successful season. Far too many games surrendered for that and yet another CC gone barely contested.

Yet we have managed to finish on a high, with a new coach whose managed six wins and two narrow defeats. We go into the closed season as an in form team, can’t ask for more considering where we were a few months ago.

Now I’m going to add to the optimism.

Stadium.

Frankly I don’t care who believes me and who doesn’t, it’s up to you. I can’t prove what I’m about to say and I have to be vague. I also have to add the proviso that this will happen if all goes to plan.

It’s on track and it will happen sooner than you think, I’m talking months not years.

Sorry that’s it and I know it’s sparse but tbh I’m hoping I’ve not said too much as I have no wish to compromise anyone.

I’m only putting this because I want to add to the upward momentum of the club.

I’m saying it to encourage people to do the following.

If you can please buy a season ticket, it’s vital if we want a competitive team next season. I’m going to even though it’s uneconomical in my case as is my son, who only attends half the home games.

Please encourage any waverers, even if it’s just for 2022.

Please be positive and encourage any casuals to attend matches whoever you can.

Please stop with the negativity, even when it’s probably justified.

I can’t stress this enough, next season is very much a make or break for the club both on and off the pitch. It’s not the end all but it will possibly be the year that finally moves us forward to a level we have not been in a position to attain for decades.

Most of the time there is very little the fans can do to change things, this time we can. To put it bluntly, pay up and then shut up. I’m joking but you get the idea. For once it will pay for Trinity fans to lose our natural cynicism and just go for it.

As I say you can take me at my word regarding the stadium or dismiss it, I don’t blame you as I can’t prove it. However buying a season ticket and encouraging others to do so, well you don’t need me to tell you what a positive that is, some things are self evident. Even if the stadium stuff fails to materialise yet again at least we will have a good team to watch from our crumbling terraces. :thumb:

Sounds positive Vasty, have to say its the first game I've managed to get to since WP took over and the whole atmosphere is dramatically different. We've ended on a high that many weren't expecting and as long as the poop doesn't hit the fan this winter with you know what then a full interrupted season next year should be encouragement enough for the hard core to purchase a ST if they can.

It’s as positive as it can get in the current climate and with the bad luck that has dogged the stadium development for decades you can never be sur. I mean what next to scupper our plans, an invasion from Mars?

However on the field the fans can make a difference. It’s blind optimism but isn’t that how most changes for the better start?

Finally that was the best atmosphere at BV for ages and when you consider that was the worst turn out of Hull fans ever then it’s a great achievement.

Re: Another season over with : Sat Sep 18, 2021 9:29 am
Up until the last couple of months, it had been another awful season, with RL being the most farcical of sports and handling covid pretty poorly.
The change in coach certainly changed our season around and at least we hit the end of the season with some optimism that we once again have a Trinity side to support, that will battle for 80 minutes.
Yes, we will come up short on occasion (Leigh) but, we are also capable of beating top sides (Warrington)..

We need some real positive news in the close season, either in terms of a couple of decent signings and/or progress on the ground.

There is little to compare with a decent game of RL and it's always great to see familiar faces at BV.

Thanks for the season and here's to many, many more
