Who ever will be the next coach. : Sun Sep 12, 2021 5:48 pm
First I say. I like Willie Poching,, however, who ever becomes the next coach/ menager, needs to understand the players & teams mentality, they have a history of badly letting down the coach & supporters & eventually causing his demise no matter who that person is.
Our next coach needs to change attitude of the players, improve their ability, he much more professional whilst maintaining a high level of fitness. Finally, the new coach needs to understand transition of the academy players into the first team & not just send them out to championship teams of div one teams. Other clubs are more successful than us in final developments of their academy players.
I do hope as a club we don't just pick a nice guy who is easy to get on with & is cheap, I would rather pay a decent coach - yes even if he is expensive & do without a mediocre player & pay a proper wave to a first line coach who we would have to back up & not let players poor attitude dictate the club on the field.
We may only have this one chance to get this right for the season after the next season of changes !
Plenty to think about & quantify ?
Up the Trin.

Totally agree.
Today was down to the players.
Extremely poor commitment in the tackle.
Poor decision making when deciding when to run or when to pass.
Far too many players running sidewards or passing without even moving forward.
There were gaps galore today and few players were willing to run into those gaps and choose to pass without even committing the opposition.
Next year a big stick is required to get this team into shape.
Too many players just not good enough.
Who ever is coach has to get this team super fit to compete at this level.
Sentiment must be thrown out of the window and the door shown to those who
can't hack it.
Today was an absolute embarrassment and we were totally out played by a championship side despite some woeful decisions from the referee costing us tries.
I went today expecting a party only to find a team that had hung up their boots for the season.

Next year could be our hardest yet, with a possibilty more than 1 team going down.so who ever comes in has to be the right choice. I think willie will get it im still undecided if i want him to but he is the easy choice and cheap too(esp has for some mad reason chester going to be still getting paid)
That said who ever the coach is still has alot of players he will be left with who are not good enough no more and players who will be constantly injured so there hands will be tied behind there back

My heart is with poaching ,being an old boy but my head is with McDermott and that is simply down to my perceived stricter regime and structures that he will bring to the club as well as consistency on the field.which on today’s performance is a necessity going forwards. Next season may well be a watershed for this club if any of the rumours are to be believed ,and for the greater good of the club we certainly don’t want or need to be in the same table position this time next season .

It's not the best position to be in, the clubs put any new coach behind the black ball.
Any new man coming in will need to take over very quickly and be able to sign players he wants.
Recruitment's already underway and may not be to the liking of any new man.
Its all a bit of a mess.

Poaching is fine with me.
I don't think Mcdermott will bring more.

We have won 4 out of six games under WP, we can all agree that the team is playing better. The game today had banana skin written all over it, yes we should have won on paper but not on the field today. The important thing is that we can at least prepare for next season.
I am not sure that bringing a different style of coach will benefit our squad. It is like all teams a player signs for Wakefield not expecting silverware, hoping but not expecting. We have always been made up of players with a variety of skill levels and I am sure WP will know how each responds best. To have a coach like McDermott may not be the best suited and could quite easily result in the team going backwards. It did not work too well with B Smith after a short time. These type of coaches work best at the clubs with all round quality squads. I am afraid that became Chester’s problem he began to criticise the team or individuals in public and the squad cohesion quickly began to disintegrate.
The bottom line is that the coach we need must be a Wakefield type coach not a StHelens type.

Never mind lads, at least you got Linehams antics to look forward to next season.
No wonder Westermans cleared off :D

WP has done well so far it’s the players that need to be criticised.

Those consistently under performing need to be shown the door. I know that may be easier said than done but it’s an ageing squad and a large number are out of contract at the end of the season…..
