The games involving St Helens and Castleford are again both being postponed due to Covid. The list of games needing to be rescheduled are growing and must eventually reach a point where it is not possible. This could result in the final league positions not being a true reflection of a team’s performances and could lead to disputes between clubs and the RFL.
In hindsight, we should have adopted the Union example and put the onus on clubs to fulfil their fixtures, with ANY club, unable to play their fixtures hit with a 24 - 0 reverse.
This would at least keep all clubs "honest".
It is of course harsh, if clubs have a genuine covid issue. However, it would also encourage the clubs and players to take postponements a little more seriously that some clubs seem to be doing at present.
Having 3 games out of 6 postponed on a regular basis is causing untold damage to the reputation of the sport.
We dont look great at the best of times and just at the moment, we look all over the bloody place.
There clearly isn't enough space in the calendar to fulfil all of the "lost" games and the league will get ever more skewed as we move towards the last part of the season.
The situation with Saints and Cas shows just how unprofessional our sport has become.
