The whole restructure becomes neccessary because Sky think that RL is worth so little.
If dropping to 10 clubs in SL doesnt create a huge uplift in advertising revenues, what then ?

The whole problem with the game is lack of cash and investment.

Does a reduced top flight really encourage more investment into the sport and if so, why has this not happened with the cut from 16 clubs (in the old first division, down to 14 in SL and then when the game dropped to 12 - can anyone else spot the pattern ?

This is all about the bigger clubs protecting their own income and not developing and improving the sport.

The appeal for the championship clubs will be that they will get more money.

The appeal for the top clubs is that they will get games that will attract more fans.

The appeal for Sky is that the games may be better.

The appeal for the yo-yo clubs (and I include us in that group, as we will become one) is that the drop won't be as disastrous.

The crucial matter will be the voting rights. Ensure a three-quarter majority is required to vote in any change in voting rights and a two-thirds majority is required for any change in structure, and the top flight can only make it a closed shop by breaking away completely.

My suspicion is that any proposed restructure is to prevent them from doing so, because they feel they are being held back by the dinosaurs at the RFL, Rimmer and the like.

10 league have no more supporter, it will just be the same fans who will go ,The Standed will not improve ,Sky are putting the best S L teams on now and the standed is poor .It will still be down witch club chairman is willing to lose the most cash to get the best team, And watching the same teams week in week out ,will mean a fall in viewing figures ,as is happening now

Fair point there bud.
Sky theoretically cherry pick the games that they want to show. Therefore, if the quality is poop, they should perhaps show some other clubs / games.
You would think that more clubs = more diversity of fixtures and a better choice for the broadcaster.

With just 10 clubs and say 3 live games every week, it will be the same clubs for 2 out of every 3 weeks

Re: Proposed Structure 2.0 : Mon Aug 09, 2021 7:30 am
I see another meeting this week regarding the restructure. It is not surprising that self interest remains the stumbling block. It is as per usual all down to money with some clubs not wanting to dilute their share amongst 14 clubs. We now have a situation where I would guess some clubs want to go straight to a 10 team SL and others who prefer the original plan.
What it will boil down to is what Sky want which is two divisions of 10 clubs and for SL teams to decide the time scale. The latter will split along the lines of those who feel secure to be in the 10 and those that don’t. I don’t know if it needs to be a unanimous vote or a percentage of clubs, the latter would depend how many of the so called bigger clubs can convince fringe teams that they will be in the 10.

So it seems that SL club's have come to an agreement on this today, for now:

Super League clubs have voted in favour of retaining a 12-team competition next season, meaning promotion and relegation will go ahead as planned.

Clubs met again today to discuss the way forward for Super League with several proposals on the table, including expanding to 14 teams for the 2022 campaign.

However, Rugby League Live understands an agreement has been reached that will see the competition stay as it is, for next season at least.

There remains a strong appetite for two top divisions of 10 in 2023, although how that would be decided remains up in the air.

The immediate impact is on the bottom of Super League and the top of the Championship.

As planned, the Championship will run a top six play-off system that will conclude with the Million Pound Game to determine which club will replace the bottom side in Super League in 2022.

When they do decide whatever restructuring plan to use, I really do hope it works for the game as a whole. The state of the game at the moment is at the lowest I’ve ever seen. We, as a sport are in the last chance saloon. Just make option anyway.

So after several meetings they’ve voted for the system that they previously thought wasn’t good enough (which is why they had the meetings in the first place) and the same one that Sky thinks isn’t producing enough good games. How very Rugby League.
