I was chatting.... : Thu Jun 24, 2021 2:16 pm
....to an old player after the Cas game and he summed it up perfectly.

The teams were well matched and the game was tough and tight, there was just one thing that truly separated them in his opinion.

We made roughly 6 major errors and Cas capitalized on two, the Ashurst's pathetic strip ball and Jowett's howler.

Cas made about for errors and we capitalised on none of them.

Without the errors it would have been theoretically, two tries each and two conversions to us and one to Cas and we'd all be happy. Hey ho.

Sorry for the late post on the issue, been away for a week with work.

But we didn’t and I wonder when we will learn to protect the ball because you can guarantee we will have it stripped at least twice every game. The problem was against Castleford all we did really was drive it in with no or little second phase and they were still able to strip the ball.

I wonder if we have had the ball stripped from us more than any other side and stripped the ball least from the opposition ?

In many ways, we are a decent team, committed, fast, skilled but I have to say since Finn left we have not been smart.

We make far too many unforced errors, much as I like Lino, every week he will drop a ball stone dead under no pressure and he's not alone.

There seems to be nobody capable of calming the game down, we still seem to not understand the theory of building pressure, it's like every set is a must score.

The Cas game was tight all through the seconds half but we rarely kicked to get a second set, high ball every time, or a ponderous play to the wrong wing. I know it's cliche but with a bit of composure, that game was ours.

Jowett's howler was typical, I was right in front and you could see in the body language that he was already looking for a miracle attacking option instead of concentrating on the ball. There was no need with 20 mins to go.

If we can just do the basics we have a good chance of winning most games but at the moment unforced errors are killing us.

Agree with you there Vasty.. Completion rate was poor against Cas. If we'd had completed at a higher percentage and were more clinical we'd have won that game.
We are well clear on the SL stats with 142 errors. We dont help ourselves sometimes

Same last night, and when we did complete we did so poorly, forced two drop outs I think when in truth we should have got endless sets of six had we been smart. Wigan were there for the taking imo.
