For the thirty-plus years I’ve watched the club, we have tried to buy or at least import success. The results to say the least have been sketchy.
Now we seem to be wanting to create it and in my mind, that’s always been the way.
But a word of warning to those fans, we all know who they are, those who want to sack Chester and bring in a new coach who will give the kids a chance, it will take time to build a team from within!
Those who say ‘well if your happy to support a team stuck at the bottom’, well you’ll have to do for a time I’m afraid.
It takes a long time to build from the base, build a culture, find the right mix. It will be frustrating but then one sunny day it will click and then at last will be what Trinity has not had in decades, a club culture.
This IMHO is why the BOD is sticking with CC and Applegarth, to finish what they have started. It's a risk and a gamble but for me, it’s worth it, I’ll take a few more drab seasons if it leads to a team that is finally built on firm foundations. The Academy seems to be doing its job now and then some and let's not be insincere here and pretend that IT isn't mainly down to CC. Applegarth is doing a grand job but he won't sneeze without a nod from CC. The way the Academy functions and the players they recruit will all be the way Chester wants it, does anyone really believe the nonsense that he doesn't care?
It's clear we can no longer buy in talent, it's not so much money, it just isn't available as far as I can see. So as I say we need to create our own. Rosy days ahead if we keep our nerve.
