Went down tonight, thought Sam Eseh put it about up front, obviously along way to go but be interesting to see how he gets on next year. Murphy on the wing just oozes quality at that level, be good to see him step up also next year.

I agree. The pick for me this year are.
Murphy - lad must have almost 50 try’s this year. He’s a dream to watch and looks exactly like another TJ coming through. I have high hopes for this lad. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him get a few games next season. Lad needs game time though.
Ruan - think this guy has star quality. He’s so powerful and a huge unit at 6ft 3 but the lad runs it in like an animal and he has a great pair of hands. If we don’t sign this kid up I think we are missing out big time.
Eseh - think the lad will get a few opportunities on bench next season. A year of full time training and a strong pre season and he gives himself a shot.

Not sure if Ruan is being kept, you’ve probably seen more of him this year if you attend More under 19’s games than me but he looked well tonight, though obviously coaches see things differently! I’m sure we will he seeing Murphy tearing up the wing for the first team in the not so distant future.

I haven’t seen that many myself. The few I have he’s been very good imo and he just has the physique And skills to become a very good player imo. No idea on the clubs thoughts but if we are investing in youth he would be one id seriously look at (with Murphy, Eseh and Bowes already signed up)

It’s one of them isn’t it. How many players have come through the academy/ reserves and have left, with some fans scratching their heads thinking “Why have we let them go, they’re great”. But then no other team picks them up and they wind up playing in lower divisions. I over heard someone saying Leeds and Saints are sniffing around Ruan, but who knows. From what I’ve seen he looks a very handy player. Some very handy players developing in that team.

I get what you mean by that but sometimes you just have to take the risk. Bit of a double edged sword. If they aren’t retained they likely fade away to part time training and environment so wouldnt progress as much as staying and signing for a full time SL team.
We will have to wait and see on Ruan but woth Pitts and Ashurst over 30 there’s opportunity for players like Windrow and Ruan next few years.
I struggle to keep up with what's been approved and what's still a proposal.
Is the reserves coming back next year? with academy going to U18s?
If so a lot of these players will be making up the bulk of the reserves which will be basically U20s with a few overage fringe players / those coming back from injury.
I guess most teams are going with a skinny first team squad next season as the money is not there.

Problem is risks are expensive and in truth they are all risks, even Murphy who looks ready now but won’t be.
I said on another thread I to have been upset about young players we’ve released yet in all my years not one that I can recall has ever made it at the top level elsewhere, not one and I don’t count the self destructive Brough.
The coaching staff are rarely wrong and I wish they were at times.
If money is tight we should be dipping into the academy more and giving those young lads the opportunity. If we don't running one itself is a waste of money, and if we don't then we will lose the license to run one.
These boys have competed and beaten their Wigan, Saints and Warrington counterparts, and they are not shy about putting kids into the team.
