It’s rare I disagree with you PT but this post is ecactly correct Especially where max is concerned
It’s time for max to be our starting number one
He is good enough
But he's been our starting number 1 for at least 2 seasons. The only time he didn't play there was when we needed him at stand off.
When Grix was here he was the better option. Max had more to learn which he has done. When Hampshire was at full back, we were all very divided. It wasn't a given for either of them. Walker wasn't signed to replace Max. He was signed because Hampshire wasn't signing a contract. We needed more than 1.
Max has been outstanding in my opinion but even tonight he has made mistakes. He isn't perfect so it isn't just a case that he should keep his shirt no matter what but right now he is the better option and I hope for years to come.
Hampshire was OK tonight but I think Miler would have been better and should come back when fit.

Can i just ask do you actually watch max when he joins the attacking the amount of times the attack stops or drizzeles out when it goes to him he either fails draw a man and passes too early (this was brought up last year on a sky live game) or he keeps old of it too long and has to take the tackle.i have nothing against max and wantbhim to do well bit mostley i want to see wakefield win and just think theres better full backs about granted he went ok tonight took alot of high balls but for aforward to sit him on his backside without touching him was poor...its irrelivent what we think anyway its obvious if the Gaskell rumour is true that our coaching team want another fb

The attack stops dead regardless who has the ball. Hampshire, Lino, Miller, all running very lateral and removing any space the outside backs have to work with. To me that's a structure thing, we're set up to play what we see so other than the Ashurst crash ball no one seems to have a set role or plan in how to attack.

IF Gaskell comes and does a better job at FB than Max is doing, I will be the first to admit I was wrong about Max, but let's be a little more accurate here - I take it he passed too early last night, when he spotted TJ without a marker - the pass that lead to the try? I agree about the missed tackle, he needs to sort that BUT you must be watching a different FB when it comes to attacking because I think the opposite about his passing. Like you say if the coaching team think otherwise it's irrelevant what we think, but is Gaskell coming for the No 1 shirt?

You're wasting your time PT, Max has become a cause celeb for some so fact has gone out of the window.
1: He's clearly first choice FB and I see no evidence where CC suggests others wise.
2: Talk of a new FB is almost certainly aimed at the more obvious need of replacing Walker. Why people think we need only one FB baffles me, but then they are probably the same people who will complain as to why we don't have one if Max gets injured. Out of all the Max arguments, this is the most bizarre.
3: Some players are constantly under the microscope and seem to have to prove themselves every week, I actually agree with this. Yet some don't and Max seems to be one. What should matter is how Max is performing but what seems to matter is some alleged historical injustice that now means Ma should be an automatic choice. Well, Max was lucky to keep his spot after the Cas game, that was a poor effort in a big game from a player who should want to be at his best against the said team. However, to Max credit, he played very well yesterday and has probably won back the belief of his coach.
This is how it works, you're only as good as your last few games. This applies to all players, for me, Mason and to a lesser degree Fifita are very much under the microscope at the moment
It's funny how all fans moan about alleged favouritism unless it's their favourite and then they get all defensive.
I see no evidence to suggest Max has been treated unfairly at any point in his career. He's been left out when personally I thought he should have been picked but that just my opinion, the coach has the final say, that's why he's coach. I certainly cannot think of a single game Max has not played at FB that would have been altered had he done so.
People need to accept that Max is a decent SL FB who is a good fit for us at the moment. He isn't the star they hoped and probably never will be CC or no CC, he has too many deficiencies in his game. He's nearly 25 and has played almost 100 games, he's probably as good as he's ever likely to be but you never know for certain. I hope he proves me wrong but if he doesn't then I won't be blaming Chester, I'd say he's given Max a fair shout and will continue to do so, so long as Max responds as he did last night.

I thought Hampshire played well yesterday but he is, without doubt, the worst offender for that, he simply cannot make decisions in time. If he could he almost certainly would be the great HB some on here would have us believe.

Do you not think Gaskell is being signed more for his utility value?
He can play almost anywhere but is especially effective at SO/FB/Centre/Wing. We simply can't ignore players like that in a way Hudds clearly can. His inclusion almost certainly allows us the liberty to either sign an extra specialist player or promote another few youngsters.
I see no obvious reason to assume he will take the FB slot instantly, that is seriously up to what form Max is in.

for me vasty with the pace Ryan as got and to a certain extent jowitt they stand too flat and they don’t give themselves a chance running onto the ball. All the halves are the club have similar movements when the first priority of a player especially a half should be forward as this gets the line going forward: if it then goes sideways it needs men to drop back under which we don’t do to create space. It’s frustrating because we can move the ball through hands at times but not consistently, the structure of the attack needs some work, to me there just seems everyone in the way all the time and the hooker and halves should be getting them out of the way

Ryans problem for me is he is too much of a team player, I know that sounds odd but a H/B has to also occasionally be a selfish show-off to be really good. Ryan has the pace and the balance to attack the line himself but always seems caught in two minds looking to create a play for others whilst shaping up to have a go himself and ends up doing neither.
Let's not mess around you know him better than almost anyone, so tell me if I'm wrong but is he basically too nice a guy in a way that says Brough wasn't?

Morgan Knowles try last night was a good example of running hard at depth coming on an angle his tackle bust and momentum was a peach of a try, why we don't use what ability we do have baffles me
