Jowitt has been the best fullback at the club since he broke into the team, yes he had flaws in his game, which 18/19/20 year old doesn't. His development stunted whilst Grix was pretty much selected unless injured but is now becoming the player the potential suggested with a regular run of games. Before that it was in for 1/2 games, out for 8/9, in for another and out again. We aren't going to get a better FB in our budget so his signing is imperative. Plus the academy licence saga has shown in order to keep an elite academy they need to bare fruit.

He hasn't been the best full back over that time at all.
He was behind a more experienced and on form full back.

I think to say he is hitting form because he has had a run of games is disrespectful to the hard work he's had to put in to reduce those flaws and improve his strengths.

But now he has improved we need to invest to maintain and increase that improvement even more.

Jowitt is number one priority imo too to tie down. It’s my opinion he will be a future England full back. He’s only just turned 24 and his best years as a full back are going to be coming up. I really hope it’s at wakey. He’s got a great pair of hands, sets up a few try’s, backs up well and I think his defence has improved a lot. He’s held many a big player up and tackling Sau and Gelling on the break last week to deny them was brave and more importantly effective. Can’t think of a better full back in Max’s age range presently.

Filling in and helping out on the wing, SO and other positions hasn’t helped him but the run he had end of last season and now it’s clear he’s worked on his flaws as said above. Get him tied up for a few years imo.

I don't doubt he's put the hard work in, but it's a consistent run of games where the development comes from. He just wasn't getting it until relatively recently.

Max is becoming one of my favourite players to watch. His maturity and improved decision making now make him one of the best young fullbacks in the league. Hardly made any errors this season in a complex role.

Correct it isn’t anything to do with them imo. Max was just as impressive last season and instrumental in the much improved performances in the final months of the season. He earned the number one shirt for 2021 with some cracking performances in 2020. Max has clearly been working hard on his game for some time beyond the start of this season. I’d lay a lot of the improvements made by Max at Chesters feet. He’s had to really work to make it into Chesters favour and it’s made him a much better full back imo. He’s a good all rounder.

Really looking forward to seeing him realise his potential. Over the coming years.

I really wish I could agree with you especially on your previous post regarding him playing for England but I just don’t see it. Hope I’m wrong though.

For starters I don’t think he’s quick enough for that level but I suppose he could compensate for that.

More importantly is his defence. It’s certainly improved in the last year but it’s still flawed and imho always will be. Truth is Jowitt doesn’t relish the tackling part of the game enough. He does it well enough for SL but against the Aussies etc he’d get caught out. At that level you have to mean it, you have to hit them as hard as the rules allow, you have to chance every lost cause and you have to put your body on the line at an almost suicidal level at times and you have to be a big personality.

I may be wrong but I don’t think Max has that. Excellent club man but not an international for me.
