We know there are to be less academy's, but when MC, says 5 are in for two places then there more than 5 SL, clubs ?
So who are the 5 ??? If two of them are wigan & saints then that's us gone & choose what happens, if we loose out we
Will have to buy & not train/learn players !!
Also what do we do with all our current academy players + no A team !
No wonder MC is a bit fed up ! He knows what's coming !

Think the 5 are such as us salford hull kr opposed to the big boys, that said its disgusting that the rfl are doing this how is it a fair playing field...so leeds wigan warrington saints can pick up all the promiising youngsters and develop them for there clubs while such as wakefield cant and are dependent on signings from there cast offs

Its unbelievable

We’ll, on Monday night during the Q&A, his phone rang, he said the decision on the Academy’s license had just been delayed by 10 days to the 21st of May, saying something Althea lines he didn’t think much of the reason given for the delay. I’ve watched the Full 80 minutes prog on YouTube recently, Mick Gledhill consistently says he believes London, Newcastle and Bradford will be given an Academy license. If he thinks that, then obviously some SL clubs will miss out. I know Mick Gledhill sometimes gets it wrong, but this time I’ve a feeling he’s close to home.

Forgive me, but would we be losing the funding to operate an academy, or just the fact we would be unable to run one. If its the later, I don't know how that could be legal.

If they are doing this, they should get rid of all club affiliated academy's and just have region's. Best kids are then drafted

Think it’s a disgrace personally that this is happening.

As said above you simply can not have a level playing field if every club doesn’t have the option to develop its own players and talent.

It puts those without at a distinct disadvantage on the talent pool availability.

Also, am I correct in saying there are certain salary cap exemptions on homegrown player salaries? How would that be allowed if a club no longer has the ability to produce its own.

We used to have an academy and reserve team. Now we run the risk of losing the academy. It’s atrocious.

I think it’s a sure fire way to unbalance the league in the short/medium term. All top flight clubs should have an academy.

I found this on the RFL site,I’ve inserted a couple of relevant paragraphs. Interesting that Salford and Leigh have applied, but one club has been refused because they are outside of SL.

Funding, reserves & reviews: How the academy system moves forward post-COVID

18th March 2021 James Gordon Pick, Super League 0
We’ve mandated the academy licence application to say they must run Under 18s and reserves from 2022, so we can get the programme back to where it needs to be. It’s a transitional year, it’s not ideal, but it’s the best we can make out of the situation.”

At the end of this year too, the academy licenses will be reviewed. It is believed that Salford and Leigh have submitted applications to join the party, while at least one other club has been turned away due to not being in Super League.

The funding model

Currently there are two clubs outside the top flight running category one academies – Bradford and Newcastle. A third, Widnes, decided do disband theirs at the end of 2020 citing the uncertainty over the funding which is largely controlled by Super League clubs.

Their experience of this post the club’s administration in 2019, when more than £80,000 in funding – earned by the success of their academy – was withheld in a vote of the 12 top flight clubs.

I guess without a licence we wouldn’t be able to draw down the funding or play any self-funded team in any RFL competitions. So the reality is we wouldn’t really be able to run one.
