Re: Stadium and other issues : Tue Jan 10, 2023 9:20 am
Just thinking outside the box, I wonder if anyone has approached Castleford? A few years ago they said we didn't need a new stadium and kindly offered to let us share their new one at Glasshoughton. Maybe it's time to show some goodwill and return the offer?

We could use the £2m the council have earmarked for them and use it to do up the West Terrace. This way they'd also have good facilities to support them with a Grade A license.

Also, reading the Cas Forum, a lot of their fans seem very supportive of the new Axiom development and are encouraging others to register their support on the planning portal. This way the project could still go ahead but at a much lower cost and likely a lot quicker too.

Michael Carter is a honest bloke, I'm sure he would work out a reasonable rent agreement. I can't see any negatives to this as Castleford have shown willingness for a similar arrangement in the past. Fingers crossed it's being looked at.

It's a very nice sentiment but IMO the reality of that scenario would be that most Cas fans would likely not want to come to BV to watch their team, ditto if we had been offered the chance to play at Cas.
Plus it would very likely bring the "M" word back into the equation as far as IMG would be concerned...why have 2 teams playing out of the same ground when they could be told to merge (or die) thereby freeing up a SL place for the likes of York/Newcastle/London/whoever ??

The majority of Cas fans were up for us renting at Glasshoughton, I think this shows they're an open minded bunch and would be more than happy if the roles were reversed.

I also don't think we'd merge, I think worst case scenario they'd become our feeder team with us being the city, a bit like in the NRL where they'd play in the lower leagues but keep their identity.

So first you want Cas to abandon their home town and move in with their despised "Big City" rivals, then you want them to abandon their SL status and become our feeder team ??????
Good luck selling that one down at Weldon Road

The weather forecast for Sunday is not showing any rain at the moment, so hopefully it won't be an issue this week.

First part - Were they? And - Are they? I have my doubts...... :P
Second part - May have been true but not now with IMG in the mix.
If Hull/KR played in the same stadium, then more than likely IMG would want to do that to them, so we would be in the boat with Cas.

Yeah, I did wonder that after replying TBH
It could be fun posting that idea on the Cas nutjob forum IMWTID, as I think you'd get a very good response :thumb:

I can remember Ted channeling his inner Winston Churchill and announcing at half time that we would never ground share at Cas.
