Yes but like Mopsey, I remember the early 80's it was horrible. Don't ever want to go through that again. The trouble is many think it will be a breeze to get back up, I am not too sure on that. Also I don't trust the game like I used to, Who knows once the chosen few at the top get their favoured clubs, there may not be a place for us and the draw bridge could shut. That's why I think it was totally irresponsible by Minards and Carter to go this most important season with such a poor squad and coach, I will never ever forgive them for that !!!

Over our recent history we’ve been on the ropes so many times and been given a standing count ,and always managed to stagger on until now .As as a long suffering fan I feel a sense of relief which is weird to say we are heading into the unknown as a club , but things had to change ,break it down and build from the bottom up ,and this has been a wake up call like no other . The creaking gate has finally given up the ghost , but hopefully a new dynamic club will rise up from the ashes ,and give us all hope for the future and give us what we’ve wanted for far too long

The problem is at the end of next season there is no promotion or relegation. We are basically back to a type of franchising where other criteria are taken into consideration. The longer we are out the chances of returning diminish so I disagree that this was a good season to be relegated. This sounds like somebody making excuses for their obvious failures.

We had a dynamic team only a few seasons ago unfortunately this was hollowed out over the last few years to reduce expenditure.

Re: Minards : Tue Sep 12, 2023 8:00 pm
I was there in the 80s too and yes it was grim.
But it was mainly grim because we also watched the 79 team taken apart. It's all about expectation.
People were happier when we were just outside the playoffs because we'd been lower and I hope we get the enjoyment of the promotion season because it was competitive and we needed to be at our best to win it.

Same now. Relegation is doubly bad because we've watched them beat Wigan recently and we'll soon by at risk of losing to Keighley or Swinton (no disrespect intended)

However, if there is a time to be relegated I agree with Minards that this time we are more likely to succeed on IMG points than we are game winning points.

Not wanting to sound like a broken record , without these two at the helm we probably wouldn’t have got relegated as we’d have folded more than likely ,and for that I’ll always be grateful to them ,and imo Ellis coming in at this late stage in the proceedings might yet be a master stroke as inflated long term contracts will be in the shredder and free up money and spaces which have been at a premium all season and get some players in who will play for the shirt instead of going through the motions as we’ve seen far too often these last seasons .

I'm not sure it was dynamic either. A bit of the good old days memory there.

I've been a season ticket holder for 60 years and I remember the grim times in the 80's. I'm not like some on here who seem to have a personal vendetta against board members. That is only dividing the fans not galvanising them. I'll be there next season and every season supporting the team.
