There’s not a lot of point in Powell employing Mills if he’s not going to listen to his view. So while Powell may have fancied Kershaw he might have been swayed by Mills’s argument

They do different jobs though. Gill is resourcing, so finding and agreeing terms with players.
Powell is overall player manager so decides which ones he wants.

However, I agree his view is important. But in terms of talent, Powell's view is importanter

Quote from Kershaw in latest report:

"I spoke to Daryl (Powell) and also listened to an interview he did on radio where he said he was in talks with my agent. I thought things were looking good as I would have been delighted to help the club get back to Super League. But the reality is my agent was told there was definitely no deal at the club for me and I was surprised after that interview and after meeting Matt Ellis, which he had requested. Matt had indicated he was keen for me to stay.

Wonder if the agent got a bit gobby and blew Kershaw's chance?

It probably was his agent, but at 24 years of age he should know the score by now. If there was an offer he should just have taken it. Not many players covered themselves in glory last year and Kershaw was one. He was far from the worst but he still wasn’t in a strong position.

Whatever the truth, it’s to late now imho, there comes a point where neither side is truly committed. Doesn’t help that the lad has history in this regard.
