what a disappointing finish to a good game today for Normanton Knights u17s who went to Lock lane in the semi final of the national cup, having totally dominated them in the first half and even being down to 12 men due to a yellow card for holding down and going in 0-6 up everything pointed to a close game. Lock lane came out in the second half and looked the most lively and levelled it 6-6. The original ref had turned up and his replacement had a lot of us baffled by his decisions especially when one of our lads was up ended above the horizontal and even though we got the penalty stayed on the pitch, 8-6 to Normy.
Lock lane then had advantage again due to a remark made by one of our player who then was sin binned so for a second time we the lads had to endure playing with 12 men, now I'm not sure why but on both occasions the binning was ten mins, not sure my self but was told by our officials that it should of been 5 mins in junior,
Lock Lane then failed to take a penalty which could of levelled it again, anyway the pressure built and the lads again held them up on their own try line when a Lock Lane lad was hurt in the tackle and an ambulance had to be call, not sure on the injury but he got caught up doing the splits and could of dislocated his hip but there was concern that he could of torn his groin / hamstring either way the lad was given pain killing gas and was stretched off.
This left around 15 mins to play and was back to a full squad, nerves got the better of both teams and keeping a level head went right of the window and mistakes was done on both side until with only a min it or so remaining Lock Lane went in on corner, unconverted it put it to 8-10 to Lock lane. at the kick off there was only 43 seconds left so a short one was taken but failed to retrieve it back and two plays later they ran in a try through a tried and dejected defensive line to score under the post and convert it, 8-16.
very proud of the lads as this was their first defeat of the season and it was a premier side that had to inflict it, they can stand proud on the performance to lose in that way, its a shame the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats couldn't of seen this as the could learned for these gallant players today.
Well done lads
