If the money wasted in the Prison Service makes your hair curl, you should see the wastage and mismanagement in the NHS!
Sweden has a properly socialist tax system, but there are still billionaires and abject poverty. There's no Utopia under any system...but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be striving for a fairer society and distribution of wealth.
For what it's worth, I think every household in Wakefield should pay a one-off "tax" of £50, to be used for public health (starting with the Community Stadium).
Still, I would think that, I live in Barnsley.
Strange that dboy, because every one I’ve spoken to involved with the NHS says exactly the same.
But then, any attempts at reform are beaten down...
It needs to change - but won't.
I think the Tories strategy is to pretend they want to reform it, knowing that Labour/Unions/media will whip up a storm against it, whilst knowing that without reform it will eventually crash and be replaced by privatised concerns.
The Labour railing against the reform they term "privatisation", will be the very thing that delivers the privatisation of the NHS!
And people need to stop saying the NHS is free - it's funded through our taxes - we all pay, whether we use it or not.
just to rub salt in the wound, the new Wakefield Divisional Police HQ at Normanton and the new police station at Elland Road in Leeds were also built under PFI. Makes you sick doesn't it?
d boy I don't expect anything for free and never have done. I contribute more than enough to the public coppers and have no say in how much direct tax I pay. to suggest we could pay 50 quid more to the council and some how end up with a nice new stadiums crazy.
I am certain you are missing the point with the "£50 per household= a stadium" analogy.
You want to pay no more to the public coffers, but think PFIs, for such things as Pinderfields Hospital, are unjust.
How about if I said I can fix the trains and road transport issues of the North of England if you paid a bit more tax? Still no?
I'm not sure we do pay enough in taxes, but I am sure that the taxes we do pay aren't used fairly. They can stick your London and the South right up their Crosslink arses!
Same in the armed forces, so much money wasted, a camp I was stationed at in the south was parented by Brize Norton, they had X amount to spend and at the end of one financial year had quite a few quid left, this was used to erect a new £10 million pound perimeter fence and security gates even though we where leaving in 3 months and the fence was in good condition. The reason given was if we don't spend it we will not get it again next year. That was one of many things.

The NHS is well down the road to privatisation. Hunt’s efforts to introduce US style Accountable Care Organisations without Parliamentary scrutiny will, if successful, be the death knell for the NHS. These companies are profit motivated, and are known to withhold life saving treatment to boost profits. Care will be rationed even more than it is now, and will lead to a two tier system where those who can afford insurance will get the care they need, the rest will suffer.
In the US this model of health provision has led to Drs admitting to refusing life saving treatment by lying and saying that the patient wasn’t covered (google Linda Peeno) and patients being refused the cost of expensive life saving drugs but being told that they could have assisted suicide paid for. And that is the tip of the iceberg. Covering up ‘superbug’ infections and other potentially lethal problems by citing commercial sensitivity is documented - if you trust any Govt not to try and cover up this kind of outrage you’re naive. We’ve seen Hillsbrough, Paedo rings, Orgreave, Grenfell and other failures of Govt covered up - this Govt is covering up privatisation of the NHS by saying it will be free at the point of use, which may be true but doesn’t admit that access will be restricted by rationing.

The point is that corporate greed has robbed Wakefield of community sports facilities at Newmarket, and this is a microcosm of what’s happening in the wider world. I know it’s complicated, but that doesn’t mean it’s not happening, and unless people are aware and make their views known it will happen whether you like it or not.

That was what I got too in the RAF, I am old enough to remember services before they didn't have budgets, but when we had to work on a budget we were advised to spend to the budget or our budget would be cut the following year.
