Well, what should happen in a fair and just society (some would call this a socialist society), the government would pay for it from it's incomes.

Its incomes are taxes - we'd all be happy to pay more taxes, as long as there was a tangible benefit, wouldn't we? (apart from people who say stuff like "why should my taxes go up, when I don't even use the trains/roads/hospital/Community Stadium?).

Nailing down the tax avoiding conglomerates would be another step in the right direction.

If the Govt couldn't raise more taxes (too unpopular with the electorate), it then needs to cut expenditure - popular term = austerity.

I think the households of Wakefield should pay an extra £50 in council tax for 1 year - this would more than pay for a stadium and /or a big free car park for nurses.

Sorry I'm of the opinion that I pay enough tax on my income and council . If a new stadium requires me to pay 50 quid a year more in council tax then I'm afraid its a no from me.

And there we have it.

An example or extension of people who feel we are entitled to something for free...like a National Health Service. Spoiler alert: nothing is free, including the NHS - we all pay for it (apart from health tourists, who some feel shouldn't be chased for the cost of their care).

If the people of Wakefield won't pay for their Community Stadium, maybe we could get a developer to it for us? I'm sure they wouldn't do it for free, but if we perhaps engineered a situation that allowed them to make enough profit for developing a space (perhaps a brown/green field site), then I'm sure it would happen.

Oh, hang on...

£10 would probably do it and as an income percentage it would be small number.

But it would be very hard to convince people about it. Me included and I want a stadium.

If you made the council income public and then listed clearly all the things they have to spend money on.....the stadium would be a long way down the list I'm sure.
Of course a good council should be able to deliver on more than one thing rather than just having gold plated roads because roads were top....but I fear we don't have that council.

I think I pay enough taxes and am one of those who (fortunately I suppose) get minimum benefit when the Government or Council spend it. I would gladly put a substantial sum into a community stadium project for the benefit of Trinity though.

There’s plenty of wealth in England to supply every city with the facilities we want, its how it’s distributed what’s the problem. I work in the prison service, take it from me, the money wasted would make your hair curl and that’s just in one establishment. The monies sent abroad, well, another embarrassment  I have always been staunch labour, but I take no sides on this one as they are all corrupt, lying sods whatever we want to call them and it’s frightening to think that no matter what we say or do these so called powerful people just keep doing what they want.

Indeed
Controlled by the ruling classes, generally educated at the same school, looking after each other.
We get what we are given and are supposed to be grateful.

Councillors used to be different and some had a conscience but, nowadays, even that is changing.
When council leaders can be paid more than the Prime Minister, there is something fundamentally wrong.

Agreed, throwing more money on broken systems would imho waste more money

The last few posts are all about right.

If the money wasted in the Prison Service makes your hair curl, you should see the wastage and mismanagement in the NHS!

Sweden has a properly socialist tax system, but there are still billionaires and abject poverty. There's no Utopia under any system...but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be striving for a fairer society and distribution of wealth.

For what it's worth, I think every household in Wakefield should pay a one-off "tax" of £50, to be used for public health (starting with the Community Stadium).

Still, I would think that, I live in Barnsley.
However like it or not there are only a few dozen Bransons and millions of us, roughly 30 million.

If everyone of us paid what we owed thet NHS would be a lot better off.

If everyone of us paid a pound a week extra tax that's 15 billion a year extra for the NHS.It's that simple.
You'd think.

Actually it's £1.5bn.

I've no objection to the taxman squeezing Branson's knac*ers until he coughs up a bit more towards the other £13.5bn. Unless you reckon each of us 30 million should chuck an extra £500 per annum into the kitty?
