It is complete nonesence to expend 2 seperate batches of tens of millions of pounds in the Wakefield district to build 2 stadium just for the luxury of pampering to sentimental parocialism of fans.

I have said it before Cas and Wakefield making a joint spend of over 35K to build 2 stadium that will be used less than 20 days a year for RL is business madness. Added to that they will then end up competing for conference, training and other commercial business that stadiums engage in as their other core businesses (driving down revenue).

This extra expenditure will go in the pockets of developers and out of our game. A stadium share should be sold as a way of investing 10s of million of pounds in the game in the district by not spending it on 2 stadium.

Not a popular view I know but a way forward that keeps millions in our game. Oh and by the way I don't think that a Millanese derby lacks passion or either clubs an identity - its just a ground!

but I am really dissapointed that the ground wont be in the city... I understand the reasons but it is really sad...

Wakefield Trinity should play in the City of Wakefield.

And any ground share WILL end in a merger... eventually

The City of Wakefield is very small with very few substantial areas to develop into a suitable complex. It's only four miles from the city centre so it's close enough for me.

How much would Cas put into ground? Heard something about them not been able to sell there ground :?

They have always thought they could go it alone.

The wording from the press release did stress that this would benefit the district so I’m sure that the venture is open to both Cas and Featherstone. The distance is pretty much equal from both places but I do consider Stanley to be very much in ‘Wakefield’ as opposed to Castleford so I don;t think that would sit well with Cas fans.

It is yes it's closer to Wakey town centre than to Cas any way, they just want to try and please themselfs, I live in Stanley and it's in Wakefield!!!

From what I understand the site would host a lot more then just a stadium. It’s use will be year round, that’s why there is interest from educational establishments.

Also the not wanting to share a stadium is not purely a parochial RL trait. How do you think a shared stadium between Liverpool and Everton would sit? Why doesn’t Tottenham move in with Arsenal? It’s an English/British trait to want o have your own home. It is our castle after all. This sort of thing doesn’t seem to matter as much on the continent.

Nor does Rodney Walker in an interview in the LE, leaves it very open for Cas to join in - very interesting indeed.

Having spoken to someone today, who has very strong relations with WMDC, I am led to beleive that sharing the stadium with Cas is very much a likelihood!

Khalav you raise interesting questions and make valid points. I live in Liverpool and know full well how their fan feel about sharing - their parocialism (your right its not the exclusive reserve of RL fans) is costing both clubs millions as well, and neither club have realistic plans of a new stadium any time soon. I predict that they will end up sharing.

The economies of scale however make comparisions between association football and rugby football a little spurious.

As for the having your own home stuff - well its interesting rhetoric but ask yourself this. If you needed an office 20 days of the year and you could rent one / build one with another person who needed one 20 days a year. And the distance between you and them was a stones throw. And the difference in the 2 options had a cost difference of tens of millions of pounds - would you choose to cop for the full cost? I wouldn't and RL clubs shuldn't.

The thing that stops them though is the sentimental parociaism of many fans. It will cost our game millions of pounds if Cas and Trinity develop seperately.

In this context the Stanley site is fascinating, is it close enough and still far away from both Cas and Wakefield city centres to make a share viable?

I don’t believe you, Richard Wright said things are all progressing according to plan at Glasshoughton……
