Re: Liam Kay : Sat Oct 26, 2024 11:18 am
I did hear a week or so ago, a couple of contracted players were being released, never considered Liam would be one of them, simply because of his versatility, but I do get his reasoning.
Always approachable and great with the kids, and not a bad RL player and a good clubman.
Thanks Liam

We already had some decent cap space left for 1/2 signings. I’m wondering if the club have someone in mind to replace Kay. Though at this stage I think we would only look at players who could challenge and add to the 17.

Maybe we have in Rourke, who can play in several positions, I believe.

Been a good servant who will be missed, but maybe the time is right for all parties for him to move on.

I think he requested the release rather than being released by the club.

Roarke already signed months ago at a time when Kay was still expected to be part of 2025.

Roarke hasn’t been signed as Kay’s replacement. He could along with Booth and Smith cover positions that Kay can cover.

It’s not necessary to sign a player for the same position/s Kay played. Personally if there’s a prop with good potential out there I’d look at a prop.

I realise that, maybe it just fits in nicely with the clubs plans.

I think it fits in with Liam's plans. I'm told he's a joiner and was selling his merchandise at the Great Yorkshire Show this year.

Caleb's brother Braden Hamlin Uele seems to have fallen out of favour at Cronulla and finished last season with the Newtown Jets. Big unit but unfortunately seems to come with a big price tag, maybe a player to monitor for now unless the Sharks want rid enough to contribute to his salary

Don't think there are many out there. Definitely no Brits off contract. Could make a play to buy someone but with McMeeken, Rodwell, Uele, Atoni, Vagana, Bain, Cozza, Shaw all able to play there, and Lingard coming through, would it be worth it?

Wouldn't bother with Mickael Goudemand. Would've been happy with Sangare but he's gone to Salford.

So that leaves us with Championship props with potential. Did you see many? Eribe Doro's gone to Hull KR, Dan Okoro to Warrington.

Shaw and Lingard aren’t ready for SL yet. Cozza is more of a 13 than a prop and he does look trimmer and more athletic recently and played second row for France this weekend gone.

Bain again I see him more a 13. He’s defensively strong and seems to have a pair of hands but won’t break a tackle or get many post metre gains. Nothing wrong with that at all but I think he’s better suited to 13.

We have 5 x good prop options as it stands.

There isn’t much available but if I was looking I guess I’d probably look at..

Sammy Kibula - thought he played well against us in a few games. Maybe our back room could transform him. Clearly though Cas don’t think he has it in him.

Leon Ruan - aren’t Leeds looking to offload him? I rated him as a junior and he could be one to develop.

Sam Eseh - his Wigan move has probably not worked out the way he planned. I think there’s still potential there. If Wigan are open to a modest fee or even a season long loan it could be a decent boost to forwards.

All the above said though. If we don’t get many injuries and the likes of Mckmeeken, Atoni, Rodwell, Uele, Vagana play most of season then we probably don’t need anyone else.
