He's still right. We had more missing and you had Hurrel as a replacement so hardly a step down.
Hurrell on a cheap contract has been our buy of the season. But that doesn’t negate that we are missing 6 regulars, and with both Dodd and Hopoate out, we’re short in the spine. Bennison was second behind Welsby (who got the plaudits for the winning DG) in the Saints MoM vote on Twitter, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t miss Makinson etc. I don’t know who Wakefield were missing but I said from the offset it wasn’t going to be an easy game. My only disappointment is we didn’t get to see Pemberton, but Bell played his part.
Also to clear up the attitude thing - Saints whole first team had 3 days off following Huddersfield (Paasi mentioned it in his MoM interview vs Huddersfield). There were definitely some dropped balls and miscommunications as a result of that. That was Saints choice though and Wakefield can only play what was put in front of them on the day.
None of that takes away from a competitive performance from Wakefield, and as fans it should rightly be applauded. A draw on 80 minutes was a fair result for the performances on the day. Thems the rules unfortunately and its worked in our favour today.
One note of caution though. The Warrington fans were very pleased with their efforts against us as well, only losing by 2 and full of hope moving forwards. They then lost the next 5 I think. Put in that performance again and you’ll get some results, but actually putting that performance in again is the key.
