So what you saying about Kear?

As for NRL I find it rather boring, but maybe that is because I am used to SL? When I watched the world club final Manly blew Leeds away IMO

I am stunned when people say this!

Have you seen any of the games this year they have been superb.

I sometimes think that the NRL is boaring is said without actually watching it, not saying this applies to you necessarily, but the number of people who come out with this blows my mind. The 2 ref system in the NRL has made the game even faster than it was before. Its a joy to watch.

Regards Kear i think he is one of the few coaches that actually coaches rather than just expecting that the because the players are first team players they have all the skills and do not need to practice them, which i have found is the case at most clubs.

Not watched a game this season. Last game I watched I think was some time last year and I got bored. But after watching Manly tear Leeds apart I may have to tune in and see if my opinion has changed.

I find myself agreeing slightly in what jonh is saying in regards to skill levels but i do feel the entertainment on off now is better than anytime in the SL era even though the skill levels may have dropped.

I can fully understand why richer clubs would want to spend more cash to improve their team and be the best.

I was against SL, i was against franchises and i was against the salary cap but i have been turned, the skill level in a game is not the be all and end all. You can not deny jon that there are more games now where the result is difficult to predict compared with just 3/4 years ago and it is making the game better for it, when Wigan where the all spending superpower they played marvellous rugby but my god what a boring 10 years we had as spectators, Wigan for me killed the challenge cup with the way they won it for fun, even Wigan fans at the time where saying how it was not the same.

If we stick with the salary cap as it is for say 2/3 years the leveling off will mean an even greater chance of other teams being able to win something, once we are on a level playing field where all clubs can spend the cap then we should look at increasing/altering it.

I agree with the first part of the statement in bold but not the second part i do not think the game is better for it, as i think the standards generally have slipped.

I do not claim to have the answers (which is unusual  ) but i think if the cap was based on a clubs comercial activity and the inovation this would be good for the game, i reiterate Wigan would not be in the top 2 clubs if this were the case.

What it would force clubs to do is fight tooth and nail for every penny to increase there ability to recruit the more expensive players, which as we know does not guarentee success anyway. Remember the cap has not always been fair and was conected to turnover up until this season I think, and still the traditionally "poorer" clubs have provided a more competative league.

Retaining the cap removing the ceiling would force clubs to fight to enhance there turnover.

Allowing dispensation for Academy players who make the first team would focus the teams even more on youth development and a dispensation for an Academy player who makes an International selection for England/GB would add to the ability to retain them at the clubs they are products of.

I would also like to see overseas players wages count extra towards the cap maybe 110% of there actual wage to ensure only the very best were recruited and considered worth the spend.

I could live with that or something along those lines.

No it works one way, and that is the problem.

The quality of our International team is reliant on both quantity and quality, we occasionally have quality but we never have the quantity.

The cap works in Australia as they have both, we in England do not. I have no idea how losing one of the British games best prospects who is a bloody good player already can be brushed off as ok as they will be others coming through.

Smith a few years ago was rated along with Inglis as the top prospect in World rugby league, Inglis kicked on Smith had a few lean years but he is now moving forward again and who knows where he could finish as a player.......well if he is any good in union like the rest of them.

As someone who has invested time and money into the development of junior players at 3 SL clubs including Wakefield this kind of it does not matter attitude stuns me.

I would not exchange Smith for any of our squad at Huddersfield. He went on the tour on the strength of the Grand Final. He is nothing special and if he wants to go let him, and any others.
There are always good young lads coming through, and most of the ones that turn to Union do not cover themselves in glory.
The salary cap is good and should be kept, it helps to stop clubs overspending and getting into financial difficulties.

That point totally contradicts itself, rewarding commercial success means either letting the better supported or wealthy clubs spend more.

The first NRL game was great Broncos v Storm, the second one Manly v Bulldogs, well if Manly had played like that against Leeds they would not have won. And last weeks Penrith game was crap and any team in the top eight in SL would have beaten both sides.

Disagreeing with you does not automatically make him wrong, and I switch off the minute a Wigan fan whinges about the cap.

Read what he put, he made out like i was calling for an end to the cap, when throughout the thread i have clearly stated i support the cap.

Have Wakefield ever broken the cap? Glasshouses and all that.
