I think there's a lot of hypocrisy regarding the use of drugs in sport, or in other areas of life too, for that matter.
Any sportsman or woman using performance-enhancing drugs to gain unfair advantage in their profession - i.e. drug cheats - should face a ban from that and other related sports. Anyone using recreational drugs that are not performance-enhancing should be dealt with as the law of the land deems appropriate.
Why someone who has tested positive for use of a class A drug and only done themselves harm should be banned from a sport, whilst others who have used "legal" drugs and beaten 7 barrels of crap out of innocent bystanders whilst under the influence can continue to play is beyond me. Will Hock face prosecution for what he's done? I somehow doubt it.
I cant get my head around any comparisons with Drugs and binging on booze and pies!
I know that if Fags, and Booze had just been invented they would be highly illegal, but they have not, and are not.
Coke is class 1 drug, and all the bullsh1t surrounding is it bad or not is irrelevent, the damage to the image of the sport, and the impression on young players is catastrophic. Hock is a seasoned International back rower, and with the exception of Peocock, Long, Wellens, McGuire and a couple more of our top players, it does not get any bigger.
I am very pleased he got caught, if not only to make some younger players think twice about getting involved.
I am now going to trap my c@ck in the fridge door, and stick hat pins through my balls, because I fully believe in good all round family values
My sentiments entirely, sir. (Although I'll give trapping my c@ck in the fridge door a miss, if you don't mind)

The simple fact is, under WADA, UK Sport and the RFL, cocaine is a banned substance carrying a 2 year ban.
It'd be very difficult, and possibly unlawful, to ban players for criminal acts not taking place on the field of play. There the responsibility lies with the club and the wording of thier contract with the player, unless we go down the route of all players having contracts under the control, centrally, of the RFL.
can cocaine give an enhanced performance in any way or is it a recreational type of drug?
Gives you a feeling of euphoria, makes you hyperactive for a while, but that's about as good as it gets. Doesn't aid decision-making, doesn't enhance performance in sport, and basically ***** you up.
'That is why no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party.... So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin'

i took him to be criticizing rather than disputing that fact. although i'm sure you already know that

Having an alternative point of view is all well and good, but when you have to rely on quoting out of context just to score a point, that really is a waste of everyone's time....

I didn't mean it to come across, that way, it just seems that there's not much that can be done regarding the off field stuff. You knew if a top player was released for that, another club would snap them up.
A big dilemma for the clubs, do you give up a chance of winning to show some morals?

using Class A drugs and Class b drugs and Class C drugs are not itys against the rule of law
I agree about alcohol and smoking and obesity but as I state they are lawful snorting coke injecting brown and smoking weed taking amphet, using ecstacy shabu etc are illegal.
I was merely responding to your point about drugs being a drain on resources and pointing out that these other things drain as much if not more than drugs.
