Sky demands. : Thu Aug 05, 2021 5:44 pm
It has been discovered that sky are the drivers of the changes to SL & RL, their dictat is a cut of £ 14 m - next year & 10 teams
To SL . There are no options, money/sponsorship is the control on this.
I am however, a little puzzled, there are 12 teams, so £14m equates to more than £1m per club ? I therefore think that the cut is over the current overall sum over the next few years, hence the staggered changes.
There is going to be an excess of full time players ?
Attendances across rugby league will fall, but initially rising in SO but calling once repeat matches loose their appeal !
Things are set to change especially when salary cap is removed, I do predict in 3 years, further French & other countries will be
Invited into SL, which is what issue is on the back burner !

For me all we as a club can do to make sure we are in the mix if or when these changes take place is to get our house in order and get a team on the field that is competitive ,and hopefully if we can get some of the new stadium in situ we have a shout at keeping our place in the top tier of RL . But even without all this hear say and speculation I would still love to see a team down at belle vue that can go toe to toe with most clubs in the comp and give us beleaguered fans something to look forwards to instead of a relegation scrap every season.

Here here, kettykat.
However, as the changes will happen due to monies etc, the game will never be the same & rugby league will be marginalized as a result with no return to previous number of clubs, with massive numbers of part time players !

That's funny I remember very similar words being spoken about the game when SL came in being - you know, after over 100 years of part time rugby!
People can say what they like but for all the money RL has had from Sky over the years the game is no more popular in the UK now than it was prior to SL. Just my opinion of coure.

I'm not sure repeat fixtures will cause a fall in crowds. The game was apparently booming a few years ago and repeat fixtures were common.

It is correct that Wigan v Warrington, for example, three times a year will mean that each game has less of a big bang, but Wigan-v-Warrington x3 will produce a bigger crowd overall than Wigan-v-Warrington x2 plus a game against Salford.

The crucial thing will be that it is a two-tier "super league" structure, as opposed to a super league and separate RFL league, as it is in football, and it currently is. This means that changes needing two-thirds majority, for example, would need at least four lower tier clubs to vote in favour.

I do believe that these meetings are about the good of the game and its future, and I've faith in some of the people involved.
