Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.

Blackpool 16 - Keighley 14 : Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:54 pm
Everyone said it would be close so top marks there but we came out on the losing side of a close game. Some dubious decisions by the ref but at the same time we had enough of the ball to have been further ahead in the first half.

Having missed the Gateshead match I was looking forward to this game and Keighley did not dissapoint. Some good tackling, good offloading, solid tries, but.... Some sleepy heads at times aswel. What on earth was that over the head throw it anywhere pass

With that said the ref allowed too many high tackles, one of which finished Greg off, (clearly targetted following his good game against gateshead).

Onwards and upwards. Hunslett will be another tough one.

Very disappointed today this was one game where the man in the middle determined the outcome, yes it was not the referee who scored their tries but by giving some absurd decisions it gave Blackpool a lot of possession which to their credit they took well.

The referee let lots of high shots go then eventually he pulled their captain out to warn them then in 2nd half it started again and when he gave us the penalty he took no action against Blackpool

We had enough chances to have won the game, I am still puzzled why he ruled out Danny Jones try at side of post myself and otheres had a good view and it was a clear try.

Surely clubs must have some redress against this type of referring.

I am not taking anything away from Blackpool they played well in the 2nd half.

There are afew possible reasons why keighley one was not going for the 2 points when we got a penalty infront of the sticks in the 1st half when it was 0-0, as on the next set we lost the ball.

One was the officals on Danny Jones try or no try as it turned out. As Danny went to ground he, clearly got the ball down, but been by the post, i can only guess the refs view was blocked by the post pads as when he came into view, he would Danny with the ball just off the ground and asumed he was been held, so cant fault the ref there as he can only give what he see's, but surely the touchjudge saw it grounded as he went to stand by the flag. And I believe this a case for having ingoal judges at National League games like they do at non-tv super league games and NL playoff games.

That for me was a turning point as at 16-0 Blackpool may have buckled, but they went up the other end and scored, from then on didnt look back and credit to them looked the more hungry of the 2 teams in the last 15mins.

I was told today that the blackpool coach declined to give after match speech due to the way the game was won, read into that what you may.

8)

Again, good solid posts Cougars, a joy to read and and respond to.and i agree with you all and Baz 's commnents re ball posession and certain players commitment , on another post , re new potential signing .

I saw a very good game of rugby on Sunday , by two sides who really neither looked up for owt, but looked quite useful teams.
I honestly thought it could end 0-0.

The Ref quite honestly added the bit of spice that the teams were not, ably abettd by his Linesmen one of whom was hunting an Oscar.
There was a lot going on, and at the end i wasn't a bit surprised wed lost it .
Too many times we gifted them posession when they were screwed , let them off the hook . I gave up counting at 18 early in 2nd half.
Most of which was unecessary lost ball . One lad in particular gave them 6, purely because hes not learnt to hold the bloody ball into his body when he goes for a drive against 2-3 or more opponents. You cannot play like a back in the front row !!!.
But this is all minor stuff its the game, God if they were perfect it would be boring.
Blackpool at last look like they have a squad and a coach wholl give a lot of teams a bit of a game this season and good luck to them more entertainment for us .
WHO wants a team to lie down and give up ?.
Which brings me to the only slight worry i had mid 2nd half , where was the fight and determination , to first , defend our lead and second to bloody stop them having the ball and imposing on us .
We only completed 3 sets of 6 in the whole 2nd half, thats a lot of defending and chance of error.

Thats where we lost it and probably deserved to lose it .

Possibly Mr Spencer and Baz are paying these lads too much just for turning up???.
Roll on Hunslet and a charged up Cougars , it will be a good game and we should return to winning ways we are still a very good side .
Still impressed with the new programme , but missed anything LOCAL from the Blackpool Club.
Also missed a good pint of Black Sheep and Blackpool lost about £30 of beer money, because getting a drink as a Cougar was almost impossible , i gave up after being told there was a pub over the road !!.
BY THE BARMAN, cheeky sod.

From the sounds of it, it was a good game on Sunday wish i'd gone to watch it! Im sure we're gonna do better on Sunday against Hunslet though, we're sitting pretty at the top of our pool at the minute and got to say I quite like the look of our name up there!

The only thing that wind me up on this forum is moaning about referee's and what not! It's a bloody difficult job at the end of the day but someone has to do it. The dissallowed try was not for the grounding it was for a forward pass, hence why the touch judge stood on the flag, he's a very good friend of mine so will be giving him some grief when I next see him for it! I dont see why people think that referees go out to deliberatley to cheat a team out of a game?! They wouldn't be reffing at such a high standard if they were! Andy you should know how difficult it is to ref a game!

Unless the referee physically runs the length of the pitch and scores the winning try for the other team, lets just stick to supporting our lads!

No doubt i've probably just given away who I am in this post but be right :D

Dead right mate.

|Our refs have to work on at least 40% anticipation whatever is going on and theyd be supersonic if they could maintain position for every meander the playing lads take.

The faster and more inventive the play the more difficult to referee .
Sadly we made the game all too easy to referee with easily anticipated play and errors any REF could see what was happening before it occurred .

Nowt to do with the REFs lads, its down to our play and actions , MOUTHING at them DOES NOT HELP one bit on the pitch and the idiot in question is making a profession of it for Cougars.
If HE played HIS game he wouldnt have the breath to MOUTH off at anybody.
Gives at least 4 penalties away per game GUESS who it is ??>
