Freddie celebrates âWorld Book Dayâ : Thu Mar 05, 2009 8:13 am
Freddie Cougar, Keighley Cougarâs furry mascot broke off from his strict training regime to celebrate âWorld Book Dayâ.
World Book Day is a UNESCO event which is celebrated in schools throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland on Thursday, March 5.
The aim of âWorld Book Dayâ is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading.
The super Cougar broke off from his exertions in the Cougar Park gym to spend an hour or two relaxing and reading a book in âCougar Prideâ, the clubâs independent educational centre.
He got his nose into a book called âCougars Going Upâ which was published in 2003 and tells the story of the Cougarsâ year of action when they were promoted to National League One. It was edited by David Kirkley.
Freddie said: âIt was fantastic to relive some of the clubâs most recent glory days. I really like reading because besides helping me to relax, I also learn a great deal too.
âThere are loads of schoolchildren all over the country joining in World Book Day and itâs great to know that so many of them enjoy books and reading as well as all the other things they do in lifeâ.
