I started watching several games due to the hype and nothing else on tv and turned it off.
The games I did enjoy was the SA/France QF and an early Fiji game.
The skill levels of the games I`ve seen are nothing but appalling.
Knock ons, forward passes, missed tackles and yet a kick directly to touch from 20 yards gets the supporters having orgasms.
Union players are supposed to be intelligent people yet in one of the England games England were given a penalty in front of the posts and the customary 10 minute advantage is given and the England
player goes for the drop goal.
Why not kick out wide and go for the try as the 3 points was always in the bag?
I cannot for the life of me understand what people see in the game, it`s as boring as feck.

I can’t understand the press and tv coverage it gets. It’s awful to watch most of the time.. that final was abysmal to watch.

My old boss was a massive Union fan / ex-player in the army. He always said to me when the big debate came up in league Vs Union.

League is a fantastic game to watch but Union is a better game to play.

Now, my ex-boss was pushing nearly 7ft and was built like a tank so doubt there were any better "big lad" specimens about but even he said he played a few games of league but had to stop, once the other team found out he played Union it turned into a headhunting mission for them and he just CBA with the aggro.

Yeah I’ve heard people say that. Def more facets of play to Union. Big crowds and big atmospheres help too.

I do try and enjoy RU, and lord knows I've watched the internationals on TV since I was 5 or 6, but Saturday's was a classic example of why it so frequently dissapoints me. Barely a couple of minutes of open rugby in the entire match and the team who wanted to play it (NZ) were stifled by the unfathomable rules and the oppositions desire to exploit them.

Used to play both at a decent level. I found Union was much easier to play ( I was a stand off back in the day ). League was much more physical and demanding on the body.

Agreed. The international game is just so much better though. Don’t you think watching England v Tonga almost feels like an amateur game (atmosphere/buzz wise) after watching big Union Internationals? Incredible how far behind we’ve fallen…..

Atmosphere wise we aren't even close, which is what really holds the game back. The loss of Kangaroo tour's, a casualty of summer rugby, and then ashes series robbed the sport ( in this country) of it's only compelling international spectacle. Such a shame because on the pitch the game is still far more exciting than RU. Here's hoping HQ sells out this week and it has the feel of a proper test match.

This is where they have the edge, even a mid tier game can suddenly with a bit of marketing savvy etc turned into an "Event" I mean look at when they had those double headers etc at Wembley - Packed out. I dont even follow the game but that story was everywhere to an extent that even myself, a RU avoider still know about it.

They might have an arguably inferior product but they cant half sell it.
