Looking forward to seeing Macklin vs Martinez on Saturday. He fought valiantly against Sturm and should have won. Will be interesting to see if he can give a similar standard performance at Madison Square Garden.

Brook vs Hatton - As much as I'd love Hatton to win, I can't see it. Matthew Hatton is pretty average at best, and you'd have to think he'd be nowhere without the fame of Ricky.

I think you do Hatton a disservice to be honest he's a better fighter than he gets credit for, and over the last few years has developed into a decent contender. Having said that I hop Brook sparks him out

Aye I'll agree with that - and he has had some good fights. Beating Tackie was no mean feat even though passed it, and against Alvarez he was brave albeit completely outclassed. My point was more that far better fighters have never got the fame and chances of Matthew Hatton.

Then again I think his slow, determined style may well come up trumps against Brook. He nearly always goes the distance, win or lose, and if he can survive the inevitable early flurry from Brook then he may well be able to pick him off in the later rounds.

Was looking forward to that too, Not the first time Groves has pulled out of potential fights with injury either.

Temptation, greets you like your naughty mate,
The one that used to get you in bother,
But one that you could never bring yourself to hate.

Re: Boxing Round 2 : Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:18 pm
IMO Groves needs to set the record straight with Anderson first, couple of European level fights, then do a better job on DeGale before he goes near a world title fight. He has a lot of potential, excellent jab, good range of punches and aggressive style, but he is so open to the big right hand it's not even funny at the moment.

I was wondering the same. Says here he is defending his European Title on April 21st in Denmark.

http://www.boxingfutures.com/news/0316- ... le-denmark

The Italian-based promotion company that won the purse bid for James DeGale’s European title defence against Italian Cristian Sanavia have scheduled the contest for April 21 in Denmark.

The British Boxing Board of Control confirmed this week that Italian promoters Round Zero will stage the contest at the Nord Arena in Frederikshavn, Denmark.

It will be DeGale’s first outing since he won the title with a points victory over rugged Pole Piotr Wilczewski in October and his first since he tried to split from promoter Frank Warren.

DeGale released a statement in January claiming he was parting ways with the veteran promoter but was quickly rebuffed by Warren who insisted the Olympic gold medalist had a year left on his contract and would be held to it.

Even more grating for the European champion will be the fact that his arch rival George Groves has seemingly jumped ahead of him in the queue for a world title shot having been lined up to face WBO champ Robert Stieglitz.

Groves was made mandatory challenger for Stieglitz after Mikkel Kessler pulled out of their championship clash with injury and - after being forced out of his own British title defence against Kenny Anderson with injury - now looks set to face Stieglitz for the world title on April 28.
