It's not our responsibility to put things right. I once had sympathy for Stockport but these days I kind of smile when they get beat. I'm from Wythenshawe and so although it's Manchester, Stockport are my most local Football league club. I always looked out for their results and behind United who I support, they were one of the few other clubs I always liked to do well. Some things have happened over the years that have been bad, yes. Although he's our owner I appreciate that to a degree Brian Kennedy has left them in the poop. But the degree to which they moan about it is ridiculous. They bought the club and ruined it themselves. They are the ones conceding 4 and 5 every other week at home to some of the smallest teams in the Football league. I've stated elsewhere that I'm a Rugby fan on the pitch and that a lot of what goes on behind closed doors is something I like to stay out of. So if any of you know more, even about a club I support then fair enough. But Stockport fans can take it out on Kennedy all they like, but they need to leave the fans out of it.
Some of the stuff you hear is ridiculous. I've heard stories of people being provoked and attacked by Stockport fans on match days. Do Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie do this to one another? Do Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic? Wycombe and Wasps? Reading and London Irish?
The funny thing is I've spent a lot of my life around Stockport and barely seen any fans. It's only when they have something to whinge about that they like to come out and make it like they're this massive club. I've got nothing against them and their fans but when I hear tales like fans getting attacked for having a Sale hat on it angers me. The daft thing is I've been to watch Bury play Stockport twice and the majority of Stockport fans are about 15 years old. There's a lot of rumours go around by people who have no idea what they're on about because Stockport fans have told them their side. So Sale are seen as some demon club when we're not. If you ever come to a game you'll see we're a family club and nobody has got a chip on their shoulder. We're the complete opposite.
Besides, the majority of season ticket holders at Edgeley Park have got an SK postcode so I don't think we need to do anything to win over the community. I like the ground. It's easy to get to and is good enough for me for the time. It could do with sprucing up a bit but I'd rather stay there than move to somewhere like Salford which would be too hard to get to. But if it means many more years of bad mouthing and protesting outside of match days with little kids giving you daggers then I might support going elsewhere
