I'm not a Shearer fan one bit, but I thought his interview was great, really. He's right, you've got to strip that club & start again. The playing staff, if you think that lot will get you back up, think again, they wouldn't have a prayer. Newcastle need to get rid, get what money they can they sign players who'll get them out of that division.
You can see some obvious exits, Bassong will now go to Arsenal, Barton to Bolton, maybe Nolan to Blackburn. Others they'll get money for probably Martins, Jonas, Taylor, Enrique. You'd imagine Harper will stay, maybe Butt, Ameobi, not many though.
It's going to need some canny movement in transfer market, a few favours & probably a bit of luck, but they will attract players, still. He just needs to look past this 'Premiership Quality' thing that people get hung up on, get players who'll get you out of that division.
If I was Shearer I'd be trying to bring the likes of Beckford, David Healy, maybe Frazier Campbell on a years loan or that Gibson. Get some width, Jobi McAnuff or a couple of them Arsenal kids, Merida or Jack Wilshire etc.
I reckon they should be Hull City targets. I'd be surprised if they don't make another move for Campbell, and they should be begging Ferguson for Gibson on loan if they have any sense. The championship isn't good enough for him, he'd achieve nothing by going to Newcastle.
Really don't rate him. The odd flash of brilliance, but too much inconsistency and doesn't score enough. They need much better to survive, as proved by his current club going down, and I think he'd be poor value for money because I suspect he's on a good wedge at Boro.
Will the Newcastle fans be at St. James's Park in their tens of thousands next season when they play the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, QPR, Scunthorpe and Doncaster or will they wait until they're in the Premier League again ?
We were'nt good enough. It's that simple, we had the chances presented to us by other teams, but the lack of urgency yesterday is so hard to take. They didnt even fight
This has been coming for years, the clubs been horrendously mismanaged. Everyone at all levels of the club have to take responsibility. To blame Shearer is ridiculous. He didnt do a good job. I fail to see who could have saved us? It's fine to criticise with hindsight but if the goal last week didnt get disallowed? If we'd scored yesterday. We could have survived but it wouldnt mean that the club is rotten to the core. It was criminally badly run by the last regime. Ashley holds a lot of responsibility as well.
On a brighter note its nice to know so many fans of other clubs who arent even our rivals care so much about us
You cant blame Shearer, no-one can, look at what he has had to work with, look at how many players he has used during his 8 games to see if he can get a team together. The attitude of certain players' had changed during his time as manager and if things needed changing, he changed them.
I do like your last comment though, there are so many people that say we aren't a big club, but all they can do is talk about Newcastle.

Think the reason people are talking about it is because Newcastle fans have talked about them being a big club.
He's took over a sinking ship and wasn't able to stop it, very harsh blaming it on him. Mike Ashley has a lot to answer for, both in terms of his manager recruitment and the timing of everything.
How long ago was it when Joe had the heart problem? Why appoint Kinnear in the first place? Why let things get so bad that Keegan left? Why appoint a man who's never managed to try and steer a club out of relegation with only 8 games left? I think Newcastle will be straight back up as long as they appoint a semi-decent manager.

The club's a shambles.
Never Shearer's fault the players have never looked like they where was in a battle to stay up no fight at all.
