That pic of Michael Johnson's a shocker by the way. I knew he'd put weight on and I'd heard he'd essentially given up on football, but I didn't think somebody still on the books could get that bad. What's he doing with his spare time? Drinking?
Think you are right by the sounds of it, I know he was a regular out and about in Manchester, something of a problem drinker by the sounds of it
too much - too young, it's where the game is at and it will cause other (wealthy) casualties

How is he medically? Is he injured? He was still on City's books until just before Christmas, so I can't understand how they let a player get into that state. If he's medically okay and just fed up, there is potential for him to resurrect his career there. He could be a decent lower league signing.

Kompany's won his appeal. When he carries on tackling like that and breaks someone's leg the FA will be co-defendents with him.
Absolute rubbish.....Are you soft or something??
There was nothing, absolutely nothing, wrong with that tackle - If that red card had stood, it would have signalled the end of football as any kind of contact sport and would have meant the sport had simply become an exhibition for players to fairy about.
You seem to have this bizarre notion that before the Premier League era, players just went about just kicking each other??..... Yes, there were players who lacked the skill of others and would try to 'level' the playing field by using their physical attributes, but that was the magic of the game in that you would actually have a proper contest, an actual challenge for those taking part - It wasn't like nowadays where you get players like Messi and Ronaldo waltzing round in the knowledge they are virtually untouchable, because tackling is basically illegal.
I hope you don't mind me asking LGJM, but how old are you and when did you actually start watching football??....I don't mean this to be a patronising question at all, its just it might give a clue as to why you view text book tackling in such a dim light.

Spot on that pal. The game is in danger of becoming a none contact sport.

I don't really buy into this that tackling is illegal. Tackling is fine but the game was particularly imbalanced in favour of defenders IMO. The game still massively favours defenders and defensive players, but referees had to start giving attackers something as players could relentlessly foul without consequence. Furthermore, the game is played at such a speed now that a simple raised stud can result in a snapped bone. There are plenty of footballers that have mastered the art of the tackle without being dangerous or reckless. Mascherano was one, Alessandro Nesta another. Look around Europe and even England and you'll see plenty of players who are fantastic tacklers but very rarely put the opponent in a dangerous position. The game evolves, defenders already get away with a lot and they'll probably begin to get away with less and less as the game progresses.
