Hodgson would be insane to take the job. He faces unrelenting hostility from the press for taking Harry's job. He would be the most unpopular appointment from day one. He has no time to prepare the squad but will be held responsible when England bow out of the euros. Madness

Perfectly summed up really, he's onto a lose-lose situation IMO. It's pretty clear who the media wanted, and i'm sure Woy's appointment won't be greeted with much excitement by the fans either, he can only fail sadly. Shame, as he's a good manager, and a thoroughly nice bloke.

No great achievement though, is it?

Another quote from Jonathan Wilson:
Roy Hodgson has a terrible habit of getting good jobs in bad circumstances.

Roy would be crazy to say no to the England job. It's the height of an English coaches career. Roy will definitely face a backlash if the team don't get off to a quick start, just like he did at Liverpool. As I said before, this appointment is very similar to his appointment at Liverpool: short sighted, 'safe' and desperately lacking ambition.

As for Arry, those that want him are mugs. Neither he nor Roy are suitable managers, but the FA backed themselves into the corner when they said they wanted English specifically. Hiddink is/was available and he ticked every box bar passport.

I never disagreed with you anyway, it is a 'safe' appointment, and the FA will i'm sure make sure that their favourites are in the team. Agree about Hiddink too, his record at tourneys is pretty decent. It's academic anyway as we won't be getting out of the group IMO.

I fear for Hodgson should he take the job. He's a really nice bloke but he's on a hiding to nothing. England fans are like Liverpool fans in that they still think they're significant and one of the big boys. The belief in a divine right to win the top trophies also puts managers of both under immense pressure from the word go.

Going to Hillsborough on Saturday, so nervous. Will be a sell out with Wednesday getting the away end, should thrash Wycombe who are already relegated, but you never know in football!

This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: The Football Chat (cont) : Mon Apr 30, 2012 11:43 am
Where has this populist idea come from that Redknapp would make a good England manager?

One Intertoto Cup win, one FA Cup win in 30 years of coaching and management. No international or major tournament experience at any level.

Other than being a walking rent-a-quote and chirpy cockernee geezer, how did he ever end up being favourite for the job in the first place?
