question : near the end the ball was fed through by a QPR player to an attacker who was adjudged (quite correctly) offside by the lino - Lloris went on to bring the attacker down which would have been a straight red card if play had been allowed to continue so should Lloris have seen red anyway seeing it was a bad tackle on the attacker (offside or not) ?

I reckon yes - he should have seen red

Depends on the reasoning for the red card. If it was a red card because it was a foul on an attacker to deny a goalscoring opportunity then no, because there was no goalscoring opportunity.

If the red card was for violent play because Lloris went in to "do him" then the correct decisions is to give the free kick for the offside and send Lloris off for the dangerous tackle.

Tremendous headed own goal for one of his two by Jonathan Walters, pretty unsporting of Chelsea not to have offered him the chance to take the penalty for 0-3 tbf

+ MISSED PENALTY - Stoke 0-4 Chelsea
Oh no. Poor Jon Walters, who has scored two own goals already today, blasts his penalty over the bar. The ball's probably still travelling in orbit.

And so you aim towards the sky,

Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Sat Jan 12, 2013 6:48 pm
Just got back from the Everton-Swansea game....A poor display from the home side, little invention and several below par performances from certain players meant that the 0-0 looked pretty much certain from an early stage....For all the hype around Fellaini, the most obvious thing today was the importance of a firing Leighton Baines, who had one of his quieter games - Its apparent to stop Everton, you simply stop Baines.

However, as for Swansea, I was very, very disappointed and a little disgusted at their negativity.... Am I being naive to believe that sides are so respectful of Everton nowadays that the only tactic you can use, is to simply play for a 0-0 from the first whistle?...

For a side who usually provide decent entertainment, I can honestly say that today they were absolutely awful.....If that's all they have to offer then I reckon that Chelsea have a good chance of clawing back that 2 goal deficit in their upcoming second leg.

Bad bad day for Walters. Great finish for his first goal though, ghosted in at the back post

Sturridge and Suarez looked a decent partnership for Liverpool today. Welbeck was very good too. Jamie Redknapp doesn't appear to be a fan of De Gea, calling him an average keeper and saying a good keeper would've pushed Gerrard's shot to safety

Redknapp is generally a spiffing chap, but there is nothing wrong with that call.....DeGea is very average and I don't see much of a future for him at Old Trafford, unless he suddenly learns the basics of keeping (dominating your area and parrying shots to the wings, rather than straight back to attackers being just two of them).

Fully agree. De Gea is hardly world class is he.

Pretty rubbish game I thought. The game was one in the first half. We played better in the second half but couldnt find an equalizer. United should of been out of sight in the first half. Finally, how did Welbeck get MOM. He is dross.

I thought Sturridge's performance today was a snapshot of his career to date. Ignoring the tap in De Gea gave him, he looked dangerous, got in some good positions and has plenty of pace and a decent touch. But his end product was non existent, wasting several chances and worse than that getting none of them on target. There are few things more frustrating than watching a team mate shoot for the near post when its covered by the keeper and miss into the side netting when it should have gone across goal.

Stevie G was very quiet bar his shot for the goal and the Suaz was well marked all game.

The City game was terrible, completely ruined as a viewing spectacle by the early sending off. I'm not saying it wasn't a penalty, but the lack of consistency is amazing. Worse things happen almost every time Everton have a corner and defenders are pretty much allowed to man handle attackers from crosses seemingly unless the attackers play for Man City.
