He has, come on 100% from what I've seen of him. Currently leading scorer in Championship with 13 goals in 17 games, that's a hell of a record and deserves recognition. About time England managers started looking down the leagues for some talent, there's plenty there. People give England manager stick when they don't look down the leagues and they get stick when they do, can't win.

What utter ****ing nonsense.

A striker with this record:

Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
2000–2003 Coventry City 72 (14)
2003–2005 Perugia 28 (5)
2004–2005 → Blackburn Rovers (loan) 11 (1)
2005–2006 Charlton Athletic 18 (2)
2006–2008 Wolverhampton Wanderers 55 (12)
2008 → Stoke City (loan) 4 (0)
2008– Cardiff City 93 (36)

shouldn't be anywhere near an England squad.

I thought Capello just had a bad World Cup, but the selection of Bothroyd suggests he's had enough of being England manager and it making these decisions to get fired and walk away with a pay off.

I'm not against deserving players from the Championship being selected for England, but Bothroyd clearly doesn't fit the bill. He's in the Championship because no one in the lower reaches of the PL wanted him. An up and coming young player who will be getting the interest of MU, CFC and Citeh would fit the bill for selection. A 28 year old ex Charlton, Wolves and Coventry City player blatantly doesn't.

Remember seeing Bothroyd play for Perugia when I was living in Italy. Put one in the back of the net, wheeled away pulling his shirt over his head (whatever happened to that celebration?) to reveal a belly that looked like it had seen it's fair share of pizza and birra morretti. Can't believe he could be pulling on an England shirt in the coming days.

Nonsense in your opinion, we all have different ones. I'm fully aware of his record and I'm by no means a Bothroyd fan, but 36 goals in 93 appearances for Cardiff and 13 in 17 this season is very good form whatever level you play at, he must be one of the most inform strikers in the country. He could be proved completely out of his depth and won't feature again and if he does fair enough but on current form Capello feels he's worthy of a shot in a friendly.

Haven't seen the squad but if you're going off form then Carroll, Kevin Davies and Bent have to be included ahead of Bothroyd.

Why should Davies be in again? he had a chance and didn't prove to be worthy of another go. Carroll is in the squad and spot on Bent should be called up too, I can't understand how he constantly gets over looked. Agbonlahor and Crouch are the other strikers in the squad, I've no idea why, especially Agbonlahor.

Because Davies regularly performs at Premiership level for Bolton? Bothroyd couldn't even get a gig at a Blackpool or Wigan for crying out loud. He's so far out of his depth with this call up it's funny. It stinks of a Nugent call up, though at least he was young at the time. He might be having the season of his life but he's never cut it at the top level and up until this season hasn't really banged them in at a lower level.

I think he'll get a run out and never feature for England again but it's a meaningless friendly. I'm not saying I think it's the right call or that he should be in this squad I'm just saying on recent I can see why he's been picked. Let's be honest if Bent, Rooney, Defoe or Zamora where fit then he wouldn't be anywhere near being included, neither would Agbonlahor (who I can't believe no one has picked up on him being in squad!) but there are not a great deal of options. Davies performs for Bolton because he fits into their style of play, would he be effective at other clubs? No, I like Davies for what he does but IMO the style of football that suits him doesn't suit England.

Really? Most of the premiership games I've sat through have been dull and boring and the standard no better than the Championship in most cases.

The standard is miles different, but I agree that the Premier League also serves up its fair share of sleep inducing fayre.
