I agree the wall did a poor job, but let's be fair, if the wall does its job properly on every occasion, then you'd hardly ever see a direct free kick going into the net.

I think what's clear this season is that Baines is head and shoulders above any other left back in the league....I've always liked Ashley Cole, despite him seemingly being a very large cock off the pitch, but at the moment Baines should be ahead of him in the England team - He has far much more to his game than Cole, though looking at what England have available, I wouldn't be against them both being in the same team on the left hand side.

Take a free kick in that position and you are aiming to hit it above or around the wall. Baines was probably trying to do that, fluffed his shot, but was rescued because the defenders fluffed their jobs too.
