Sven's downfall was his conservative nature. He rarely took risks and consequently we could never really respond to going behind. Add into that the fact that players didn't have the same levels of confidence in him as their club managers, something that isn't a problem with Capello.

They couldn't. Simply because they both play so similarly and neither benefits eachother. I would say Lampard is better in the deeper position and probably isn't as direct as Gerrard, so he gets the go ahead to play in centre midfield, Gerrard for me, is a pure attacking midfielder now, playing him deep pretty much wastes his talent.
