It was his father who made him sign for Liverpool I think, which is understandable as when he was a ten they would have been the best team around, but that was sometime ago.

To be honest, it's not something he'd put in, I was aware of it as you find with most youngsters they usually have a trail here and there, Rooney was having trials at Liverpool before Everton but they weren't sure and wanted him to have a few more but Everton signed him up quick which for obvious reasons was an easy decision for him.
