What do Chelsea fans think about last night's result? I never seen the game, but beating Barca is a fantastic result. According to a lad at work (Chelsea fan), Chelsea were battered and rode their luck throughout the night, he said he thought Chelsea needed more than a one goal advantage, as Barca won't have many more unfortunate nights like that.

Anyway, I still think Barca can absolutely whip Chelsea in the Camp Nou, but the Spanish giants have clearly struggled when everybody felt they'd walk it.

Re: The Football Chat (cont) : Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:30 am
Fabregas had a couple of opportunities where he should have done better. Barca opened us up early on and we were lucky that they hit the bar. They really should have scored in injury time from the rebound off the post.

But beyond that, I thought that we defended exceptionally well, everyone worked as hard as they could and we frustrated them massively.

A lot is made of Barca's possession, but personally I think that's ignorant. If we went toe-to-toe with Barca they'd still win possession, but because of the way we set up we concede even more possession just to make sure we maintain defensive strength.

Us being battered? I really didn't see that. I saw the vast majority of Barca's possession being in front of us and not scaring me. Yes, they created chances but I think that generally we put them off their game and they snatch at the chances because they know they won't be getting too many chances and expect that there's usually two players closing them down soon.

I think the result was absolutely excellent. Winning was awesome, but not conceding an away goal was even sweeter.

I know that we could end up being smashed next week. I know that we are nowhere near as good as Barca. But in many ways I don't think there's any pressure because as far as I was concerned we were out after we lost at Napoli so everything has been a bonus since then. There's no way we're in the top 4 sides in Europe right now, so even if we do go out next week this has still been a fantastic CL campaign.

It wasn't like he was trying to get opponents booked. Most of the time he stayed down there hadn't been a foul. He just fell awkwardly after going up for a header or he'd overstretched and hurt his leg.

Same was as it was instantly assumed by the commentators that a Chelsea player had done Messi because he went down off the ball. They focussed on Merielles and it was inferred he might have done something. They then show the incident and Messi had just jarred himself with no one around him.

I do think that the ref was wrong to stop the game when Drogba was down. Drogba is a big tart and wants to be nursed if he's hurt. The ref shouldn't be stopping the game for him in those situations.

Before the match I said Chelsea needed to win by two clear goals to stand a chance of going through. I stand by that.

And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

As the game went on, I actually thought they needed three clear goals.....On another night, with that amount of possession and the 'easiness' of some of those chances, Barca could have ended up winning 3 or 4-1.

Chelsea's defending was admirable (with a huge dollop of luck), but a similar sort of match at the Nou Camp will surely see Barca winning quite comfortably.....The only hope for Chelsea is that Barca's defence looks vulnerable - I'd be tempted to go with Torres, because they will need his pace to counter quickly, on the odd occasion they will get to break out.

Any result without an away goal conceded is a good result in europe. A 2-1 defeat at Barca will see Chelsea go through so gotta say they've got a decent chance.

I can see Chelsea scoring in the Camp Nou, that means Barca scoring three. I think it's gona be close. I hope Chelsea do it.

Frenetic game at the Alvalade last night. On a knife edge, but with the away goal and with Javi Martinez back, I'll take Athletic to sneak through at the San Mamés.
Has to be Atléti from the other one doesn't it? Unless they're setting their fans up for a spectacular choke like only Atléti and the South African cricket team can muster.

I don't know. I don't really trust the justice system. He's going to have 5 years of hell as a sex offender in jail.
