Do you not rate Yobo? I thought he was a decent player and if he would play for us again, could enable us to use the £15m we might get from Arsenal on more important areas. Like a striker. When everyone is fit, it is the only area that is lacking for me. Saha is one of the best when fit, but the when is the key thing there and we can't rely on him. Beyond him Beckford is okay and there is nothing at all beyond that. Even assuming we stick 4-5-1 out everyweek, it's not enough.
Good post, I agree with that. I always rated Yobo mate, I thought he was a good defender. He had his lapse moments where he'd completely fall asleep - like when he played Rooney through to score but overall he played while we had him and I still don't get the logic behind him going. Even if he wasn't going to be first choice he'd still have been better staying in out squad but then maybe he wanted the move. We are desperate for a striker now, really desperate. Saha does still have quality about him but it's keeping him fit so relying on him like we do is a big problem, I expect Beckford to be better again this year but again it's a lot to rely on him to run the front line when he doesn't play the lone role very well. The whole ethos of we must play 451 to suit Cahill is rubbish for me, we must play to what suits us and at times 451, or 4-4-1-1 as we use it, will as 442 would other times. Add a striker and a wide man to our squad and we've got a competitive side again, although having seen Demba Ba and Seb Larsson go to other sides on free transfers I'm not holding my breath on anyone coming in.

Are there no defenders or strikers in the reserves/youth that are any good? I know Barclay in midfield is highly rated. Maybe Everton aren't as worried as me because they know there is more depth than there appears to be.
Vellios, Barkley and Gueye seem to be the main three youngsters that can step up to the first team next season. Vellios being a striker could be very handy if he continues to develop but it's always a big if with these young players, how many times have we brough someone through to be the next big thing only for it to go horribly wrong and they end up in League one or two.
We have a good team and a few fringe players and then out youth/reserves and for me there's nothing in between. We don't have a squad and again it looks like the summer will pass us by without us developing our squad, Sunderland have done it this year. Ba, Larsson, Westwood, Gera and Reo-Coker have all moved on free transfers, I'm not saying I'd have been happy if we signed all of these names but 2 or 3 of these would've really added to our squad.
