That could be an immense front line Rooney, Hernandez and Young!

I'm surprised Robbie hasn't been on here yet posting about clubs over paying for English players in the last year of their contract

It's a big fee, especially with only having 12 months left but he will be an excellent signing for United, he'll go well with good pace, a good cross, he scores goals and can take players on. Causes loads of problems in the box too. Good signing.

He's an £18m player under a five year deal. At best. Just compare the fee for Young to a red hot Mesut Ozil last year. English premium = always ripped off.

I agree mate, so if they've paid the rumoured £18 million they've also paid around £5 million more than Madrid paid for Ozil

Aren't English players less trouble on the whole? Young is unlikely to go throwing strops or demanding a move to Real Madrid once he strings a few half decent performances together.

Very pleased with the Young signing. He will give us plenty of options and will also give us some potency from free kicks which we have lacked since Ronaldo left.

It still does not solve our central midfield problem but I fear it won't get solved this season.

It's £15m. Ozil made it clear that he was going to Real Madrid either last year or this year, he let Werder Bremen know in no uncertain terms he wasn't going anywhere else. All the power in that negotiation was with Real. In Young's case you had three or four clubs interested and Young didn't make his preference clear to Villa - he let them get the best deal they could for him. The two transfers are totally different.

Agreed. I think we'll Ando, Carrick, Giggs, Fletch, Park and Cleverley play through the middle next year, in the hope that Pogba and Tuncliffe keep developing.

I don't think it's just English players that are overpriced, English clubs seem to have some kind of premium whenever they buy players. Does anyone seriously think that Ozil would have only cost £6-8M if he'd have come to England? As English clubs are seen to be cash rich at the minute then plenty of foreign clubs bump up the prices. Would Aquilani have cost Juventus £17M the other year, would Anderson have cost Real £15M, would Dzeko have cost Barcelona £27M?? I don't think so.

Aqualiani's agent says he'll be a Liverpool player next year. Good news for us. Class player.

But don't you get it? Liverpool and United were willing to pay £15m/£18m/whatever for Young, despite his contract situation. Young evidently wanted to leave, it's been obvious since January when he wanted to go to Liverpool, but Villa stood firmly in his way. Thing is, neither club stopped and thought "we can have him in 12 months time for £0. maybe we should force Villa into a corner where they have to drop their bid." Instead, we seen two clubs happily offer a bloated price despite the position of power being in the clubs' hands.

When Ozil went to Madrid, there were rumours linking Ozil everywhere but he obviously had his sights set on Madrid. United were strongly linked; however, Madrid forced Werder into a corner and got their man for much cheaper. There was no doubting Ozil's ability and his reputation was at a career-high, the difference is, Madrid treated the transfer the way it should have been treated, whereas this Young transfer seems to have been treated as though he's under a long term contract.

It's not the only deal though, look at Charlie Adam. Somehow, in six months, his value has actually risen, when, in reality, it should be dropping because he can be had for £0. in twelve months time, yet we will probably pay close to £10m for him, when we should be paying about £4m for him.
