Just wondering; why is Fergie signing another defender? It probably ends Jonny Evans' career at United, but with Smalling, Rio and Vidic, do they really need to invest £15m or so on a defender? I still think United need a midfielder or two, and, if Berba is to leave, a replacement for him. Have they announced de Gea yet?

Evans has showns O'Shea like versatility the past season. Popped up at right back and left back. Rio always injured and 32 now. I think the same could be said for LFC. Carra, Skrtel, Agger and Krygiakos?

I've not seen enough of him to criticize or praise the apparent bid. People were jizzing allover him at Christmas saying he was going to United/City. Suddenly he's linked with us and he becomes the biggest laughing stock in the world. As for mocking £18m investments on English players, Owen Hargreaves will always be the benchmark. Always.

Hargreaves was proven quality and did well for Utd until he got injured, we just had a ton of bad luck with his injuries.

I think LFC are in for Scott Dann now that Jones is out of reach. I think Kyrigakos will be shown the door and maybe even Agger too, which is a shame because he's a top quality player.

I agree with an earlier point though, LFC and MUFC could be picking up similar calibre continental players for 2/3s of the price they are paying for English.

Not seen much of Jones so can't really comment, seems to be highly rated though. Would expect Brown to leave this summer so I guess Jones/Evans/Smalling would be the main backups to Rio/Vidic, plus not sure how many games we will get from Rio.

Hope we get Young, I think he could prove to be a very astute signing although it could spell the end for Nani as Fergie seems to prefer Valencia these days.

We still need a central midfielder, would love Snjeider but can't see it.

Carra and Kyrgiakos should play no more than 15 games this season, IMO. Agger can't be relied upon, Skrtel is good, but seems to have become inconsistent and cannot defend set pieces. I wanted us to get two centre halves, still do.

I was thinking the exact same thing, especially players at the same ages as Henderson and Jones are. Both Henderson and Jones have plenty of PL experience too. Both are really good signings for the future I'd say but both would be able to play first team football immediately if need be. Immediate plus point for Jones = speaking to Wenger last night but deciding to sign for Nited instead!!

Compare the price of Henderson to the likely price of Arturo Vidal when he signs for Bayern. Look at how much Nuri Sahin cost. Look at the predicted price for Gervinho (some are saying £10m, but I thought he was going to be about £15m). The rumoured fee for Juan Mata is between E18m and E20m. IMO, the gap between Mata and Downing is more than £5m/£6m, whilst I'd say Mata is a better player than Ashley Young.

There will be plenty of players that move across Europe this summer who will go for much better value than the English players. I'm not saying the English players are bad, just highly overpriced and clubs seemingly bend over and accept it.

Raphael Varane will probably go for around half of what Man Utd are paying for Jones.

I still haven't seen a serious story come out of Spain about Mata leaving. One possible factor in signing English over foreign is that they won't have the problems of settling into the Premier League.
