As a long-term appointment (if the Shearer plan failed), it has to be Martin ONeill.....Best man-manager around.

the FA seriously p/shed MON off the last time he was seriously linked, he was offered it but there was some daft condition (which is escaping me at the moment) but it was something fkin ridiculous and so MON told them to do one

| Quote Dita's Slot Meter="Dita's Slot Meter"As another foreign gamble, then what about Rafa??....Our Kopite friends on here claim he is a top motivational coach, and he has a decent record, both here and in Spain....Certainly, a better choice than Redknapp.'"
Benitez will not happen, but if I thought the England players had the tactical discipline I couldn't think of a better choice of coach for a tournament situation where we clearly aren't the best team - but might be able to have a bit of impact with the right attitude and tactical plan.
What will happen now is that Harry will get the job, probably get a 3 year deal to start in May - then everyone will want him out for the next couple of years after we crash and burn in Ukraine/Poland.
Had the misfortune to listen to talksport in the car for a bit earlier, it's sad to know that the xenophobic chest-beaters will be getting their way - if you listened to most of the callers you wouldn't know about the Englishman who failed miserably in between the far more accomplished results of the two foreign managers who have apparently ruined English football.

Don't know what the Suarez thing has to do with the English football manager? Didn't think of mentioning Suarez once in my post.
It just makes me laugh that people think that, because somebody's English, they'll suddenly do a better job. What do people think will happen? Do they forget the Englishman that flopped in between the last two foreign appointments? Do people think that Harry will suddenly care more than Fabio? Or that Harry sharing the same passport as most of our players will suddenly turn them into world beaters? Harry can't turn Carrick into Xavi, he can't turn Rooney in Villa, he can't turn Gerrard into Iniesta and he can't turn Terry into Pique, so why do people think that these players who have constantly underperformed will suddenly perform with a lesser coach?
For me, Fabio was about as good as it was going to get for the English national side, if he couldn't get them to perform to media expectations, nobody would, so maybe the expectations will now drop?

mmm we seem to fluctuate between 'needing'
: English - English spirit, understanding what we are all about (whatever that is)
: Continental - Know how and tactical nous

| Being realistic, there are only Hart, Wilshere and Rooney that any England manager would want out of the current players. A lot of the other players aren't particularly good, including most of the old heads that continually infest the squad. What I would love to see if a manager that wasn't afraid to pick players on performance and not status and ego. Players like Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Johnson, Downing, Lampard, Barry and Gerrard really have no place in an international squad. The Euros are the perfect breeding ground for World Cups, teams like Germany, Holland and Spain have used youthful squads before, but you can be pretty sure we won't.
Why would anyone want the England job? Roddy has always mentioned the level of expectancy the role carries and it's true. The players are technically deficient and tactially naive and because the PL is a big money spectacle, they are talked up into contention. Redknapp would be daft to leave Spurs for the England job. With the player pool we have at the moment and the systems for youth development we have in this country, it's an impossible job.

| Not too bothered about Capello's departure. He has a good win percentage but failed miserably when it ultimately mattered.
I can't see past Harry now. Would like us to ditch some of the old guard and blood some youngsters in the Euros, we are not gonna win it either way.

| I think Benitez would be a good appointment, has a great record in management in europe, whether it be in champions league or la liga. We also need to get away from the old players Rio, Terry, Lampard all need to be left out now. None are permanent fixtures in the team. Pick parker as captain, 8/10 every week, will escape the huuuuge media scrutiny as he seems to be one well liked. Got great young plyaers coming through at the min in Walker, Smalling, Jones, Wilshere, Chamberlain, Sturridge, Walcott, Welbeck.
Hart
Walker
Jones
Cahill
Cole
Parker (c)
Wilshere
Rooney
Gerrard
Walcott
Welbeck
Squad-
Sturridge
A.Johnson
Smalling
Jagielka
Young
Chamberlain
G.Johnson
Downing
Bent
Rodwell
Lescott
Baines
The three behind Welbeck can all interchange, with Rooney and Gerrard being able to drop in to make a midfield 5. I think we have a lot to work with, just pick players who have failed time and time again.
