What an absolute balls up, the FA should approach Hiddink for me.
I know it goes away from the whole 'Englishman' thing but he has immense tournament experience and he wouldn't crave the job on a permanent basis so he'd be ideal in that respect, whether it went well or badly he'd be happy knowing he's handing it to 'Arry straight afterwards. He also showed at Chelsea just how quickly he can have an impact on a squad really struggling. I think much of Ancelotti's success was based on continuing Hiddink's work.
If I was Redknapp, I wouldn't leave Spurs anyhow, unless I had an idea that they'd look to cash in on Bale & Modric, if I thought I'd lose one or both of them in the next year or two it makes sense to walk.
There isn't an Englishman with the credentials to take over....Redknapp is just the media's darling, but if you look at his record closely, he doesn't have anything that the likes of Hodgson, Pardew, Curbishley, etc, haven't got as well.
If we are to go English, then I'd be bold and try a short-term, caretaker role for Alan Shearer....Let's be honest, it'd be a no-lose appointment. We are already expecting to fail at the Euro's (unless you work for the deluded media), so even if it went badly, he could just be relieved of his duties and thanked for his help....While it seems an odd choice, I seem to remember Germany trying something similar with Klinsmann not so long back, and it didn't go too badly - Klinsmann was similar to Shearer, in that he had limited managerial experience, but was highly respected for his playing acheivements by his contempories.
As a long-term appointment (if the Shearer plan failed), it has to be Martin ONeill.....Best man-manager around.
As another foreign gamble, then what about Rafa??....Our Kopite friends on here claim he is a top motivational coach, and he has a decent record, both here and in Spain....Certainly, a better choice than Redknapp.

I would agree with Shearer provided he had an experienced coach alongside him. You have mentioned Klinsmann's effect with Germany but i read somewhere that during the 2006 World Cup the tactics and systems they played was down to the current coach (Louw) while Jurgen was team motivator/figurehead.
The think that worries me about Redknapp is the enormous pressure that comes with the job. Given his outburst in the trial when someone "was looking at him funny" i wonder how he'd handle a press conference after a couple of iffy results.
Tickles me up this. All these people who are anti-racism are lusting for an English manager over a foreigner. Thought race shouldn't matter in the game of football anymore? Or is the inner xenophobe of the British nation coming back out?
For the record, England could appoint every English manager alive to do the job and they wouldn't do a better job than Fabio Capello. People need to look more closer to home and realise the English players are garbage, overrated, weak mentally and incapable of playing to the level of a coach like Capello. Would love Harry to be appointed, just so the embarrassing media campaign can finally be put to bed.

It took every ounce of your being not to use the Suarez comparison in your racism point, didn't it?
