Some of the fees thrown about for this lad have gone up to around £10m. How much did they reject last year on deadline day for him? Can't imagine Everton paying much. Never seen too much of him, judging Moyes's previous on strikers, he probably isn't very good
Moyes doesn't buy bad players. But he does destroy strikers through the policies of negativity and overburdening them and the midfielders with defensive duties. As an Everton striker you will get one or two good chances every ten games or so and you are pretty much always playing on your own with no support. I'm not sure if Jelavic fits that bill or not, but he has always looked a livewire in the SPL and although it's a lower standard, some of his goals have been very impressive finishes and he's got a lot more physical presence than Saha.
Everton will not be paying £10m. Rangers are broke, stoney broke. Going out of existence if something doesn't change broke. They turned down £7m from West Ham but a lot of that was in clauses. Jelavic didn't mind them turning it down either, but has apparently made it very, very clear he wants to join Everton. I really don't think Everton will end up paying any more than they receive from Moscow for Billy, and it's Everton that hold the chips unless someone else gets involved. We are dropping the Kevin Doyle rumour to persuade Rangers not to be greedy, as the last thing they need is a wantaway striker upset at them turning down a bid for him.
We have also agreed a fee for Kostas Manolas from AEK Athens and he looks a player as well.
