Player of the season - Nani

Manager of the season - If Blackpool stay up, Ian Holloway. If Blackpool go down, Sir Alex.

Signing of the season - Cheick Tiote

Flop of the season - Fernando Torres/Andrey Arshavin

Gripe of the season - Too many bad referees.

Innovations needed for next season - Goal-line technology.

Re: Football Chat Thread : Thu May 19, 2011 12:42 am
On the flop signing of Joe Cole.

On the footballing side, he's done exactly what I said he would. That's why I wanted him gone and why I especially wanted him to go to Liverpool.

But Liverpool could probably get something out of the deal with QPR coming up. I think he'll probably go to QPR and Liverpool will probably end up evens after they subsidise Cole's wages.

So their only loss will be the waste of a squad place for last season.

On Torres. He's been very, very poor for Chelsea. The game against the geordies at the weekend was probably his worst. He probably didn't manage anything positive in the 90 minutes. But his failure has been countered by the fact that it brought the real Didier Drogba back and we wouldn't have seen the potential of Sturridge had Torres not come.

From cretins who don't have a balanced view, yes you probably do. Not from me though. I was extremely worried about this season (rightly so) and didn't expect anything from it.

RedTez wrote:
They were wetting themselves with excitment wen they amassed the most points without winning a league title or something like that.

Quite rightly as well. How many times has 86 points not been enough to win a Premier League title? Had Torres and Gerrard been fit for more than 75% of the season each I'd bet we'd have won it. We've gone backwards ever since.

Last year it was how wonderful Woy would be, this year it's another new dawn. Leave them to it!

No one thought Woy would be wonderful. No one thought he'd be as bad as he was, granted, but you'll go a long way to find a Liverpool fan who thought we'd be winning the league this season.

Tell me honestly, have you not been impressed with Liverpool since Kenny took over? Would you not be optimistic of better things after the garbage we've endured for the last 2 years? With the reported targets we have and the solid base we already have, I'll be surprised if we are not challenging very strongly for the top 4 next season.

Player - Vidic/ Kompany

Manger - Fergie/ Pulis

Match - Barca 5, Real Madrid 0

Signing - Hernandez

Flop - Joe Cole/ Torres

Gripe - MOTD still rubbish, shirt-pulling at set-pieces, United's lack of threat from corners, officials & FA still inconsistent with everything they do, the belief of many fans that England didn't win in South Africa because of Wayne Rooney

Pundit - Souness & Wilkins

Innovations - 5 minute sin-bin for dissent will soon stop players harrassing officials. 2 sin-bins in 1 match = 1 yellow card as well.

In all honesty mate, I'd be hesitant after the amount of false dawns you've had over the past 20 odd years. You've had outstanding spells in seasons before and it's not been good enough. I have seen nothing from Liverpool since Kenny took over to convince me they can change the norm. After the 86 point season there were the reasons you've mentioned why you didn't wi the league. That would be put right the season after. It wasn't. You went backwards.

All the Anfield rent a gobs were raving about Woy. Aldridge, Thompson, Ruddock, Quinn.

In fairness, I'd be shocked if you weren't challenging for the top 4 next year, but I'm of the opinion that Liverpool should be striving for more than the likes of Spurs, City and Everton dream of.

Re: Football Chat Thread : Thu May 19, 2011 12:36 pm
Player of the season - Edwin Van Der Sar

Manager of the season - Could make a case for Coyle, Pulis, Hughes or Moyes TBH but will go for Moyes as he consistently has Everton up there despite being up against the odds year in year out.

Goal of the season - Rooney vs Man City is the obvious one (espicially as a red) but I'm going to go for Bale vs Stoke to be different!

Match of the season - Newcastle vs Arsenal

Signing of the season - Chicharito but have to mention Odemwingie and Suarez who has done better than most other January signings in recet times.

Flop of the season - Joe Cole. I would put Torres, but giving him te benefit of the January switch.

Gripe of the season - FA Incosistency

Pundit of the season - Could you call Raphael Hogenstein a pundit? Always enjoy listening to his musings on pod casts, atricles and he odd time on Press Pass.

Innovations needed for next season - Goal line technology is the obvious one, but I'd also like to see the manager challenge available. Any incident can be challeged at any point (they have one in each half), and the incident is reviewed immediately by a TV Official. If the decision is upheld the manager loses a substitution and their challenge for the half, if changed they get to keep their challenge and all substitutions. If decisions are as clear cut as managers like to think, they will make the challenge. If there's doubt, they won't want to lose a sub so will in effect admit it was a tough call and not have a leg to stand on when criticising referees. It will never happen like but I'd like managers to put their money where their mouth is so to speak.
