Well, taken the plunge into the murky world of FM2009, having patched it up first.
Started in the Conference South with AFC Wimbledon. Couple of pre-season friendlies gone, a defeat at home to Hereford and a win against Kidderminster.
Not convinced at the 3d match engine, it makes some of your players look even more useless than the 2d one as they run the ball out of play for no reason, or stand on the spot facing away from the ball as a forward runs through from 30 yards away to get in behind them.

How annoying is that??!!??
I had a fiddle at the Posh and Palace before starting my first "proper" game. I've decided to enter the murky world of the MLS and took on Columbus Crew. To my delight I saw they have Eddie Gaven, a favourite from one of my past games, and the legend that is Guillermo Barros Schelotto. I think I may be having a few run ins with Steve Nicol at New England Revolution!!
I tend not to use the 3D engine. Mebbe in a few years when they've worked the kinks out.
But anyway I've won my first piece of silverware by leading Newcastle to the League Cup. However, I'm having a transfer embargo (just at the time I was starting to look for new players to come in next year). Sold Steve Taylor and Micheal Owen to Chelsea in January for a combined sum of £22mil (including some add on's for Taylor, Owen was a quick sale as he'd made it clear he wanted out and refused to sign a new deal) But as the club is up for sale I can't now buy anyone else in. Hopefully this will all be sorted out before the end of the season otherwise I'm probably gonna have a poorer 2nd season and will most likley go the normal way Newcastle managers go
I decided to carry on with my Man City game that i started when i first bought the game a few months ago. I got a bit fed up originally and started a few new games but could never really get into one, went back on this game a few days back and back into it again, i hope anyway.
Currently in January 2011, just signed Mario Gomez as i was a striker light and brought in Alexis Sanchez to cover the wings and attacking midfield position. I won the premiership last season, and i am a contender this season but i'm a bit of the pace so at the minute looks unlikely, but never counting myself out. My teams a good un' too:
Joe Hart
Richards
Gonazlez
Luisao
Lescott/N'Zogbia
Bentley/Silva
Inler/Diarra
Alonso
Fernandez/Silva
Baptista/Robinho
Santa Cruz/Gomez
I then have the likes of Buonanotte and Alexis Sanchez (who i've only just signed) on the bench. Plenty of strength in depth and some young lads in the squad including John Fleck and Jack Wilshere. Happy with my squad at the minute, although Robinho is a bit of a flop and never seems to play well for me, but willing to keep him a bit longer, especially now i've sold Palacio. Sanchez will cover his loss quite easily.
Just sold Boulharouz (signed for £4million) for £10million, as well as Rodrigo Palacio for £7.5million. Both profits from what i paid for them, so both good little bits of business.
Looks very unlikely i'll win the league though, about 12 points behind Arsenal and about 6 behind United, looking at 3rd at the minute but you never know. Doing well in FA Cup and Champions League so far.
Won diddly zip so far , currently 3rd this year though. Finished 6th last last year and 9th the year before. So 3 years at a time at a bad rate
The game overall is excellent, the 3D format looks ok but will get better. The only slight concern is that after a bid is made for one of my players and i turn it down, the player, about 80% of the time, becomes unhappy. Which is annoying as i'd rather keep hold of them.
Current line-up:
Asenjo
Richards (c)
Barzagli
Yobo
Lescott
Arteta
Diego
Miguel Velouso
Robinho
Vela
Gomez
In terms of good signings, bought Vela way back in 08-09 for 13mil from Arsenal. Now worth 27million, although he doesn't score enough goals. Gomez signed for 23mil this season started well (scored 11 in 20), but last 6 or 7 matches hasn't scored. Asenjo, bought for 7.25mil in 08-09, been decent last few years but this year has played 21 games, Conc 10, and 13 clean sheets . Veloso and Yobo have been solid good signings.
In terms of pap signings, Arshavin, bought him mainly as a right attacking/right mid for 15mill. But did bugger all, sold him for 7mill this year. Bought Dean Ashton for 6mil, sold him on for 9mil to AC Milan. Downing for 13mil, Santa Cruz 18Mil, have been disappionting. Wasted most of my money of up and coming youngsters, who are coming along nicely.

Started to really struggle, just sold the very injury prone Baptista to Chelsea for £15Million. He was moaning that he couldn't get in the side but he was always injured, when fit was a very good player but kept getting injured, so sold him on for a reasonable amount while i could. I'm 4th in the league, and 6 points above Liverpool, however Liverpool have a game in hand. I'm also currently only a point behind Tottenham who are 3rd, but they might have a game in hand, then i'm quite a way behind United and Arsenal who are top 2. Got beat quite easily by Bayern Munich in Champs League, but play United in FA Cup semi-final in coming weeks, had a really bad last month or so, however started to pick it up again. Looking to win the FA Cup and finish 3rd. All in all, not the best of seasons.
Just been knocked out of the FA Cup in the 4th Qualifying round by Cambridge, but am sitting 3rd in the conference just 1 point behind Rushden at the top.
Signed 1 player from Chesterfield (Gregor Roberson) for £1200, got Cedric Aveniel (Watford), Magno Viera (Wycombe) and some Icelandic player from Reading on loan and signed Malcolm Christie on a free.
I'm Stevenage btw.
