Our defence is my biggest concern ATM, the strongest in the country by a mile only a month or so ago, currently we're almost as bad as WBA.
Our overall form hasn't been that good all season TBH, surely we must be about to hit top form. It's a concern, but whilst we're still winning there is no major disaster.
I can't understand it ether up untill a few weeks ago they were putting in challenges at every point defending like there lives depended on it but now they seem happy to stand off attackers and let them run with the ball. Evans has been turned inside out on a few occasions the last few weeks by letting the front man run at him, i have no doubt he will go on to become a great Centre half but he is prone to the odd mistake but i'm sure he'll iron out these problems in the next couple of seasons. But with Gary Neville being fit (Rafeal and Brown back in training) on one side and Evra to return on wednesday hopefully it means we won't need to see O'shea untill the end of the season. I'm glad Fergie rested Evra yesterday though, he's looked knackerd for over a good 2 months now and i think the weeks break will have done him the world of good.
What i did notice for the goal yesterday was Park who would normally just keep chasing the player just stopped and started to walk away after the sunderland player went past him and allowed the cross into the box.
As for midfield Scholes should be no where near the 1st team at the minute when we have Carrick, Fletcher and Anderson fit, the midfield was wide open yesterday and the ammount of times i saw Scholes in acres of space and do nothing with the ball was scary his legs just can't keep up with his brain anymore and it wouldn't suprise me if he called it a day at the end of the year, someone like Anderson could have really exposed Sunderland yesterday with the type of runs he makes through the middle although Rooney could have done this role if he hadn't have been stuck out on the wing all game.
Berbertov wasn't great but i wouldn't have said he had a bad game what i did notice was him chasing back a lot more where you'd normally see him just stand on the half way line. Also Ronaldo when he came on seemed to track back and help out his defenders which was good to see because he's just looked lazy this season when defending.
I think people saying the ball just hit Macheda are being a little harsh ok it was luck that he was in the way of a shocking shot from Carrick but he does change the position of his feet and open his boot to direct the ball goalward which is all you can do in situations like that. He looks like he has all the atributes to become a great striker with size, skill, strength and pace i just hope he keeps his feet on the ground and carrys on progressing like he has done this season in the reserves.
