| Quote Carneys Pint="Carneys Pint"Royal Ascot starts tomorrow and I'm hoping we can get off to a good start on Day One. A few fancies for me - mainly in the Group races and the apparent non-appearance of Irish Field in the Coventry is a disappointment.
[uQueen Anne Stakes[/u
Dalghar - Hoping to get the day off to a good start with this Alain De Royer-Dupre trained colt owned by the Aga Khan and ridden by our good friend Christophe Lemaire. He showed promise as a 2yo when winning a minor event at Maissons-Lafitte before failing by two lengths to overcome smart sprinter Smooth Operator on heavy ground ina Group 2 later that season. He started his 3yo career very late on due to an injury and managed just the two starts during the season, a win over a mile in a conditions event at Longchamp at the end of Octobe rand a win on Deauville's all-weather surface at the start of December beating subsequent listed scorer Rocette by 1 1/2 lengths. He returned at the start of May on good ground at Longchamp when runner-up to Sunday's Group 3 winner Fuisse with useful runners Konig Bernard and Russian Cross both in behind. He prepped for this with an impressive victory over 7f at Longchamp in a Group 3 on Epsom Derby day under todays jockey. In my eyes there are negatives surrounding two fo the first three in the market with Rip Van Winkle needing his debut last season and Paco Boy doing it all on the bridle last time out at Newbury against much weaker opposition. Dalghar looks the best of the remainder with Goldikova a stand-out and runners from the yard in the UK have to be respected, coupled with the horses 2/2 record with Lemaire on board he rates a good each-way bet.
Advice: 1pt E/W Dalghar @ 16/1 (Stan James)
[uSt James' Palace Stakes[/u
Nobles Promise - Very solid US raider and probably the first runner in this race who made his previous start on a dirt track in Kentucky. NP was placed fifth on his latest start in America's top race for 3yo's - the Kentucky Derby, tracking the leaders for much of the race befor fading inside the last furlong (10f race) as the winner Super Saver, fast finishing runner-up Ice Box and fellow hold up horses Paddy O'Prado and Make Music For Me swept past him. Outside of Super Saver he did best of the horses ridden prominently in a race that tends to favour horses coming from mid-pack primarily due to the fast and furious nature of the event. His KY Derby prpe in the Arkansas equivalent was a bit of a damp squib with him going down to Line of David when finishing towards the rear but prior to that he'd run Preakness Stakes and Hollywood Futurity winner Lookin At Lucky to a head in a G2 9f event again at Oaklawn, he was runner-up in the Hollywood Futurity and third in the Breeders Cup Juvenile, both over just shy of 9f and he has turf experience working at trainer Ken McPeek's farm in the US and also when beating Gentleman John in a Ellis Park Maiden in a fast time as a 2yo (Septembe r2009). He's won a Grade 1 on a polytrack surface as a 2yo at Keeneland which should stand him in good stead for this race and his trainer came close to taking home a Group 1 back in 2004 when Hard Buck ran second to Doyen in the King George here.
Advice: 2pts Win, 1pt Place Noble's Promise @ 25/1 (Paddy Power)
[u
Ascot Stakes[/u
Elyaadi - Something I like for these big staying races is a horse who's coming off a big run over shorter. This mare fits this profile perfectly having won her latest start at at Leopardstown by 5 lengths over a useful yardstick in Essex with Zarinava (2nd since) back in third and Alpine Glade (been running well in graded hurdles) also running in behind. She took her time to get going that day which makes me think that she'll be better suited to 2m 4f than many of these provided that Fran Berry can get her into a rhythm and slowly wind her up from 4 or 5f from home. The trainer is someone to be respected on raids away from home and the owner likes a bet so no surprise to see her backed (as the owners Moran Gra was on this day last year).
Advice: 2pts Win, 1pt Place @ 16/1 (Stan James, Victor Chandler)
Good Luck
Martin'"
Two unplaced and a fast finishing second
Staked: 8pts
Returned: 5pts
Not a great start but could have been pure carnage - think that had Fran Berry started riding her earlier she'd have mowed Junior down but a cracking ride from Sanders.

| Does anyone know with William Hill's WORLD30 offer whether your £10 bet is exclusively for World Cup matches, or if I'll be able to do an accumulator on World Cup and rugby?
Terms and conditions don't seem to have any rules against.
I'm looking at Brazil, Castleford, Queensland and Spain at 12/10.

| Was 50 down after the first three races. But two 2nd's and Marine commando doing the business has left me 30 up for the day. If Ezlaam would of won etc Hills not going to sleep would have made a bang tidy profit for the day anyhow to be in front after a disastrous start will do.

Agree there mate trying to go from last to first with about 4f left to race.
Don't think Hughes helped Paco Boy either giving Goldikova a head start.

| Tomorrows picks
Free Judgment
Looks a decent colt for the Bolger team, with Canford Cliffs giving his Irish Guineas 2nd a boost today.
Shamwari Lodge
Won at listed and group 3 level without breaking sweat so far this year and she may be able to take this as well.
Byword
Looks the class act of the race and I expect him to deliver at the expense of Twice Over
Fareer
Surely worth a go out of handicap company and could be a 12/1 EW steal before going on to take on better horses than these.
Meow
Wachman doesn't send many runners over here so it is perhaps signficant this one makes the trip.
Safina
Managed to finish in front of some useful horses when 4th in the Nell Gwyn and looks to have an excellent chance at the weights

| Siyaadah looks interesting in the last back at a mile after winning the UAE 1,000 Guineas at its only start at the trip, poor in G2s since at longer trips and needs to transfer best on Tapeta to turf but off 9st 2lb @ 25/1 with 4 to place looks decent, CP wont like the jockey though.

| 2 winners from 2 bets today. Got 8's for Marine Commando fifteen minutes before the off.
Not gonna be able to resist having a hefty ew wager on Timepiece (8's), Ascot 5-35 tomorrow. It's been very disappointing so far this year, but in a handicap and Cecil still retains faith in it, good enough for me.

| Wire - I'm not Ahmed Ajtebi's biggest fan, his ride on Calming Influence was classic Ajtebi.
Only had a look at the one race thus far and one stands out at a HUGE price in this
[u
Royal Hunt Cup[/u
Please Sing - Traditionally one of the two big betting races of the whole of Royal Ascot and tbh it's normally a bit of a lottery unless you're onto something that's miles ahead of the handicapper. Our old friend Dandy Boy turns up in this but the handicapper may have caught up with him and at 8/1 he represents no value. The one I like in this is Mick Channon's 4yo filly Please Sing who has sneaked in at the bottom of the weights in this big handicap. Please Sing had useful form as a Juvenile, most notably when winning a Group 2 at Newmarkets July meeting over 6f. Her career has been pretty hit and miss since, mainly miss but there were signs of a major revival last time out when chasing home Godolphin's German filly Antara (contests the Group 2 fillies race earlier in the afternoon) and prior to that she chased home Richard Hannon's Shamwari Lodge (also contests the fillies race) twice - at Goodwood and on the AW surface at Kempton. A win for either of those two will prove a major boost to Please Sing's chances. The nature of the race means that entries and weights were published back in May - prior to Please Sing's most recent start when she pulled hard in a small field Group 3 at Epsom (behind Antara), she did herself no favours that day and was slightly hampered at a crucial time so there's reason to suggest she ran a bit better than the bare form shows. She has good solid Ascot handicap form having finished third to a couple of useful fillies (clear of the remainder) when racing off a mark of 100 in the Sandringham Handicap on this day in 2009, she races off 92 today but is due to be raised to a mark of 98 (roughly 2 1/2 lengths at this distance) as a result of her Epsom run. The larger field in todays race is likely to help her given the way she pulled last time out whilst the other major factor in big field Ascot handicaps is the luck of the draw. Sadly there have been no really big field races down the straight course and they came stands side for both the Kings Stand and the Queen Anne, however the Coventry Stakes and the closing Windsor Castle were both run primarily up the centre of the track and the Kings Stand runner-up Markab seemed to run above himself (relative to previous form at the trip) when racing up the centre of the course in his race. There's an old US racing adage "pace makes the race" and it would be pointless backing a horse racing on the far side if he or she is going to have to make his or her own running - the horse could be 4 lengths clear of the far side group and still finish seventh or eighth. Being drawn in 31 of 33 horses means that Alan Munro on Please Sing will have no choice about which side he races on and he's fortunate that he has the early pace setting St Moritz for company, along with fellow horses Tryst, Balcarce Nov and Decembe Draw who have all run well when ridden close to the pace whilst trainer Mick Channon is in decent form having had 7 winners in the last 14 days. With many bookmakers offering 5 places I believe that Please Sing is a decent bet each-way for the big betting race on day 2 of Royal Ascot.
Advice: Please Sing, 2pts Win, 1pt Place @ 40/1 (Bet365, Paddy Power, Stan James)
Some great winners on here today so good luck all and lets kick on with bashing the bookies tomorrow

Interesting for sure! Goes off a fancied 7/1 chance in the Oaks and then is available next time in a Listed Handicap at 8's.
Maybe she's just a hype horse who does the business at home and fails to convert it to the track? I know Henry Cecil has always been sweet on her and she was always his 'Oaks' fancy throughout last year. One thing is for sure, he's the best man around for getting the best out of fillies, so I'll be having an interest for sure!
Others.....
2.30 - Quarrel
3.05 - Strawberrydaiquiri
3.50 - Twice Over (Banker of meeting for me)
4.25 - Stoic Already on at 25's and happy with form, jockey, draw, everything!
5.00 - Maqaasid Absolutely detest Richard Hills and have told meself numerous times before to never back him again, but struggling on this one because a good source has told me this is an absolute machine and very strongly fancied
