Re: Football Chat Thread PART II : Sun Mar 16, 2014 3:30 pm
Vidic was a moron for diving in like that anyway. Nowhere near the ball and just lucky he didn't touch him. He's also a gutless POS for not dropping Sturridge on the floor and breaking his nose. It would have given him a long holiday which would have been a lot better for him than going through the motions with the rest of the Man Utd players.

Sturridge and the Hull player dived. But I always say look at the stupid challenges that Vidic and Hart made. If they don't dive in like complete idiots then there's no opportunity to go over.

Moyes has to walk after Olympiakos knock them out on Wednesday. I want them to keep him because he's clearly not up to it, but I've no respect for him if he makes them pay him out after he has been so spectacularly bad.

But sometimes if they don't dive in, the attacking player has a free shot at goal.

What they should do is ban Sturridge for a game. Any dive that results in a penalty or goal should get a ban, just the same automatic penalty as when a defender is sent off for preventing one. Players would soon stop diving then.

It was refreshing to see Luis Suarez battling to stay on his feet throughout the game today. Not sure whether that was his idea or Rodgers insistence that he concentrates on football rather than attracting a media frenzy all the time, but well done Suarez either way. Sturridge on the other hand seem to end every touch he had in the United box laid out on the floor appealing to the referee.

Yet another abysmal, cataclysmic day for moyes.

How much longer will united prattle on about loyalty and stability, sticking with this clueless man, clearly out of his depth.

He's single handedly destroying the empire it took ferguson 20 years to build.

They won't win another title while bacon face is still alive.

Liverpool still won't win the title.

They are clearly involved though, so I was wrong on that.

No one could have predicted just how utterly dire Man United would be though. In a way I'm glad that United phoned it in. Liverpool are convinced that this was an awesomely great win but I think they'll get a shock when they come up against us and Citeh again.

Which is what Liverpool had earned by splitting Man United open.

Diving in and trying to put a player off by seeing a boot flying towards them is just as much cheating as diving is.

What they should do is ban Sturridge for a game. Any dive that results in a penalty or goal should get a ban, just the same automatic penalty as when a defender is sent off for preventing one. Players would soon stop diving then.

But then the Vidic's and Hart's would just fly into more challenges looking like they're going to bring players down, pull out at the last minute and then claim total innocence.

Punish diving like Sturridge's today, but Vidic's lunge is just as bad. I'd also point to a few Rooney challenges today that were utterly reckless and worthy of bookings. But because the players jumped out of the way he got away with them completely.

It was refreshing to see Luis Suarez battling to stay on his feet throughout the game today.

Damaged it by pleading with the ref to send off opponents though.

And I'm not sure whether he really was hurt when Rafael fouled him, or was milking it to get him sent off. I wanted to see the replay but Sky didn't show it, they chose to show Vidic's booking instead.

Wasn't a penalty. It was a free kick to Man United because of Sturridge's dive.

I do agree with you that it should be a pen though. But it isn't under the rules in place.

As I said before, I just think they will come up short, but the way you wrote them off as no-hopers was laughable - They and City have played the best football in the league this season and for football's sake, I'd hope they win the title ahead of Chelsea or Arsenal.

As for getting a shock, they may indeed get one of City, but there will be no shocks against Chelsea, because Mourinho will simply turn up and try to do his usual 'hit and run' job that he always does against decent teams away from home - Chelsea could very easily sneak a 1-0 or a 2-1, but the way they will play will shock nobody.

Nearly every time Liverpool have got giddy about a possible title bid they've gone and produced a shocker like Toure's gift to West Brom.

Liverpool totally destroyed Arsenal in the league, then played them in the cup and went straight out.

Today should have been a proper test for Liverpool but the Man United players were too busy getting rid of Moyes to care.

I don't think the football we've produced this season has been great, but we are still top of the league and we are still carrying Torres.

I could care less about how well Liverpool have played. Man City might have played well when teams bend over for them, but when it really mattered they were poor. And they did bottle a home cup game to Wigan Athletic. I couldn't care less about neutrals supporters wishes for where the title goes.

We shocked Man City in the league. In the home game against Liverpool we went one down early in the game. We then went up a few gears and blew them away until we were 2-1 up and then we coasted again.

We have a squad and manager who know what to do in title and cup battles. A few Liverpool players will have distant memories of bottling it when they should have won a title. But the manager and this team still don't really know what a title deciding match is like.

Anything can happen in football so I could be shocked by Liverpool or Arsenal winning the league. Either of those teams winning the league I would hate, but I'm not too worried about it happening. I thought Arsenal and Man City would go out easily in the CL and they did exactly that. I expect Liverpool and Arsenal to fall in the league in a similar way.
