I do think Fergie has the money to spend, I just don't think he is choosing to spend it which imo is a big mistake. The defence and goalkeepers looks good to me but the midfield and strikers are in need to strengthening. Scholes looks about finished now and there has to be a question mark over Owen, whilst Berba still has it all to prove. There will be way to much reliance on Rooney and we still have no sign of Hargreaves coming back.

After winning the title 3 years running he could be going into one of those re-building phases and planning on making big changes in January or after the World Cup next year?

Agree completely. As I've said elsewhere, we're already far, far stronger in squad terms than last season. And I don't think that the recruitment has ended.

And as DD said, it was absolutely crucial that we got in quality, proven goalscorers because we have been seriously lacking such for some considerable time.

Selling our best player for £80m may be good buisness but only if you then replace the quality that has been lost. We get a winger who still has it all to prove, a striker who admittedly is class providing he is fit and a another winger who spent the back end of last season in French division two.

I don't normally doubt Fergie but I think Rafa will have a huge smile on his face right now after hearing Fergie won't be buying anyone else.

The question also has to be asked about the £105m we should have to spend, is he not buying as he wants to wait until January or maybe even next summer when he needs to replace VDS, Scholes and Giggs or has the money been used to service the debt?

Links with City and Adebayor seem to be getting a little beyond rumour. I can't see Benjani being around long. Or Caicedo, frankly. Jô's on loan again and I'm not sure how much Ched Evans is really up to the mark. So our strikers at present are Craig Bellamy, Roque Santa Cruz, Valeri Bojinov and Carlos Tevez. The club officially lists Robinho as a striker, but I don't think many really see him that way. Bojinov has already said he wants to stay – but only if he's getting regular first-team football. So the idea that we're top-heavy with strikers is something of a myth. What we are in danger of, though, is actually having genuine strength in depth in that position. And to clarify: five signings thus far this summer – one defender, one goalkeeper, a midfielder and two strikers.
