Unlikely Swan ... former Canadian rugby union player Mike Pyke will make his debut for Sydney this weekend.
THE AFL'S International Rules series will go ahead in October, despite the league's cost-cutting and Ireland's crumbling economy.

Nine players went under the knife in the off-season and while most have completed their rehab, some big names need more time to fully recover. Michael O'Loughlin will resume running soon after extensive ankle surgery and Tadhg Kennelly, who needed shoulder and groin surgery, is unlikely to see any NAB Cup action. Dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes (groin surgery) is another looking toward the premiership season for a return.

WHAT'S NEW?
Former Canadian rugby player Mike Pyke, yet to debut, Daniel Currie and two-game player Jesse White are still in contention for the No.2 ruck spot. Following in Tadhg Kennelly's footsteps is Irish rookie Brendan Murphy, who the Swans say could play later in the year.
http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/s ... 40,00.html Murphy arrived in Australia in 2007 and impressed with his ability to adapt to the game. He played 16 games for the Swans' reserves last season and showed enough improvement to suggest that he may be a chance to make his AFL debut this season. A tall and solidly built player, Murphy has outstanding speed and may be groomed for a key position post either in attack or in defence.

yes it is . the crowds AFL get puts nrl . superleague . too shame . they get 80,000 to games each week afl . mega rich
thats an exaggeration theres at most only 1 game a week approaching 70/80K and games were theres no rivalry are pretty poorly attended. eg melbourne v crows only got 14000 the other week. still NRL games in ANZ and sometimes SFS do look shocking
i like afl in small doses, sometimes it just seems a bit pointless and the scoring system is ridiculous. but interest round my town is pretty big after a bloke from it called martin clarke signed for collingwood a couple of years ago. turns out hes quite good and got nominated for rookie of the year in his debut year.
